    Kinsman Organs - Any info

Ok, I will do it. I may have before knowing me. I need to learn how to look up things on here that were posted some time back. Do any of you know they easy way to search for archives of info that has been shared on here in the past? If so, please refresh my mind.

I just remember the guys that started this small company, and I think one was Richard H. Dorf who has written several books about electronic organs. I should not have loaned a copy out to an inept tech one time which was never returned. I was trying to be a good Samaritian I guess. I have missed some of these a few time on Ebay. Isn't hindsight such a good teacher?

Oh, well, back to the Kinsman Organs. Have any of you had any experieces with them?

I’ve read about Kinsmen in Thomas Jaski’s book “Understanding Electronic Organs” in which there is some reference to them. Neon tubes were used in the dividers. There were two tubes per divider. fficeffice" />>>

    G'day James,

There were never sold here so can't give you much detail. The only info I have is that there were very few models, I think only one or two consoles & a few spinetscirca late 50's, very early 60's, were valve (tube) powered and had British royalty type names like "Princess" & "Duchess". Put in a call to the palace and you never know Prince Chuck's new missus, the lovely once divorced Camilla might just have one locked away in one of her boudoirs, after all they made her a Duchess for something or other. Oh dear, I hope we become a republic before those two put their imperial backsides on the throne.[+o(]

    Ian,

You are correct. There were only a few models, and the names did include Princess and Duchess. I made mentione of them in the discussion of SAR in the Gulbransen thread. I only heard the one, and took the other in trade on a Thomas. It was not in playing condition. It was a small spinet with few stops, but well built as they were in those days cabinet wise.

Slightly OT, but having mentioned Chuck, he and Princess Diana were offered a Crumar organ as a wedding present. It was accepted, on condition that it was painted green to match the room where it would be placed. Green - Yuk!

It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

    Hi Guys, straight from Google:

KINSMAN: Inexpensive organs from the '50's.(the Kinsman "Carlyle" model was one of the first organs to have automatic rhythm) (JG) Kinsman used neon dividers driven by a tube master oscillator, developed the Select-A-Rhythm which later appeared on Seeburgs and Gulbransens. Another company in financial distress, bought lock, stock and barrel by Seeburg.

    Listen to a sick Kinsman:

Gulbransen made a "GI piano" painted olive green for the troops during WW2. Maybe Chuck could check out the war surplus stores in the UK & Europe and get one for Camilla to match the Crumar. If not it will certainly match the colour of her face after she realised that yesterday's "fry-up" of eggs, bacon, sausages & kippers was off.[]

Skip do you think the "Kinsman Carlyle" is any relation to Robert? After all they are both Scottish and he was really good in "Hamish McBeth" & Scotsmen have lots of Kinsmen.

Next time you are in ffice:smarttags" />lace w:st="on">Scotlandlace> go and play the organat Melrose Abbey. Chances are it is a Kinsman Carlyle. And you will be playing to Robert at the same time since his heart is buried there. It takes a Brave heart to play a Kinsman.[]>>
