For future and further study, get
Organists' Manual: Technical Studies and Selected Compositions for the Organ
Roger E. Davis
Textbook Hardcover, November 1985
ISBN: 0393954617
From www.barnesandnoble.com
or
From www.amazon.com
It is a good book that was perscirbed to me by a person who has his PhD in Organ.
I just ordered today.
From the Publisher
The purpose of this book is to provide, within a single volume, technical studies, diverse compositions, and technical information for beginning organists. The book is also intended for those experienced organists who want to review organ technique and at the same time have a convenient collection of useful compositions.
It is quite expensive $60- $70.
And If you think your organ needs more sounds,(what kind of organ do you have).
Check out the new MX 200 from www.Rodgersinstruments.com
http://www.rodgersinstruments.com/mp3s/MX200_1.mp3
Creates more sounds using MIDI.

To answer you post questions:
Organ is not like piano when it comes to things like crossing over hands to play different registrations, if thats what your talking about.
Its basicly what fits you best. Try to keep separate hands on separate voices.
___
You said
" suppose i could overcome this by doubling up on the manulas by coupling them so they sound the same, (i.e. like a fugue on piano) but doesnt this take away from the clarity of each voice and thus the clarity overall? "
Like adding coupler "swell to great," It will only give you different clarity, because of the different pipes speaking at once. The voice of a pipe will not change when adding swell to great. It just blends. And adjust the expression pedals for swell and great volume changes.
___
I have never heard or heard of people playing this song before.
It sounds as though you have a 2 manuel organ, so playing this song would be easier than on a piano, so you wouldnt have to cross over.
Don't add Swell to Great Coupler, and play each melody (i.e "voice") on the opposing manual.
Thanks

Re: Basics and pedalling
Hmm. Wasn't talking about "crossing over" hands. Though I suppose i didnt make that very clear.
The hand can only stretch so far.
Lets say the upper voice plays a whole note on the "C" in treble staff as 2nd voice from "A" below middle "C", decends into the "Eb" below that, while the 3rd voice starting on "Ab" (bottom of bass clef), moves directly to the C above that. (not very clear to see without sheet music!) In this case, the 1st and 2nd voices are cannot be played entirely by the right hand. No ones right hand can stretch from the "C" above middle "C" to the Eb in the bass staff.
Here, it is impossible to keep "separate hands on separate voices." Around halfway down to the "Eb", the 2nd voice must be continue in left hand. However, if it is passed to a hand using a different manual, this changes how the 2nd voice sounds (in some cases, not appropriate.)
I'm sure this isnt universal for all organs. but I can turn off all "pipes" on the great, and couple it to the swell so I basically have 2 swell manuals.
I don't know, maybe I making something out of nothing. I don't know enough about it to be making alot of sense. Some research is in order.....
I will check to see what kind of organ is it. I have no idea, other then it says "cantor" on it. Ah, the MX200. Very sexy! I'd buy it over a car any day!
Thankx for your help so far!

Re: Basics and pedalling
How many voices are there,? there should be 3, foot, left, right hand, if not, I don't know you'll just have to listen and look at the melodies on paper and see which hand you can fit it into.
How much do you think the MX200 is? I contacted a local Rodgers dealer, and waiting for an e-mail.
Is your organ pipe? electric? or pipe/electric?
Thanks

Re: Basics and pedalling
Well. I've found one of my most favorite pages again! http://www.bh2000.net/score/orgbach/
You can get Bach complete organ works there. The one I'm working on is Fugue in "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (Dorian)--BWV 538"
There are 4 voice. 1 for the foot, 2 for each hand, and 1 "middle" voice which must be divided among each hand. (the one I'm having trouble with.)
MX200. Hmm. Very very nice looking thing like that.....Well, I dont have any idea! I dont know which organs cost what! Though, I'm sure anything greater then $70,000 wouldnt be out of the question.
Ha. My organ is total electric. I will find out details as I go practice today.
Bye bye!

Re: Basics and pedalling
lol!!!!
The MX 200 is a sound creating device, farely cheap, a tip of 2k $.
Its good but I am not buying because our MIDI system is to general, and speakers may not be good enough.
That site is worthless. I cannot find Fugue in G major BWV 577, the Jig.!!!!!
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. I cant stand it, my bach CD sheet music of his complete works doesnt even have it!
I cant believe. and good luck with the song, just practice is all "I" could tell ya.
Thanks
Joseph
