    Hammond X66

So, there's an X66 for sale near me! I'd never seen or played one before. I went to check it out, and it's got the original speaker cabinet, but there's a lot of static indicating it's in need of an electronics rebuild. It seems a little warbly, like some kind of vibrato is on even when all the tabs are up. The cabinet is in nice shape, though. They're asking about $3000, which I know is too much - but the X66 is so rare, I wondered how that would affect the value. I don't want to offer them something insultingly low, but I can't imagine it being worth more than... $500?

If I had the cash and space, I sure wouldn't pass it up at $3000, the way you described it.

$500 for an X66 that mostly works is far too low in my opinion.

Sorry, I have to disagree. X-66's have been selling for much nearer that $500. There are only a handful in the UK and the last one I know of that sold in working order went for just over £300.

Prices will fluctuate over time, of course, and supply and demand will obviously have a bearing, but $3K seems very high for an organ that is going to need some TLC, possibly lots of it.
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

I know where you can get a free X77. I haven't seen an X66 for sale yet, but maybe they do sell in other places.

I had the opportunity to buy an X-66 for $500 in 2012. I ultimately passed on it for personal reasons, but I kick myself now that I didn't get it.

Alright, sounds like I'm on track, then. We'll see if I have space, that's the real question...

I've seen several cheap X-77s in my area. I kind of wish I'd checked out one that was listed with its speaker for $200.
