    Affordable Reed Organs?

Does anyone know of a good brand, site or place to look at/for to find an affordable reed/pump organ?

Most I find are well over the 500 dollar mark, whereas I'd prefer to keep it under 250.

    Thanks,

    -TJ

I've seen several at a local second hand shop. I have not checked if they are players or not. If I was looking currently, I would check local Craigs List. Also, call local piano or organ repairmen. They probably know someone that wants to get rid of one.

Thank you very much! Btw, I'm finding it quite difficult to find one of them with more than one keyboard...

2M foot pumpers are not common. You might find it easier to locate a big Estey 2MP that had foot treadles. Estey built these in the teens. They have a pedalboard, so there isn't any "manual sub bass", unfortunately. And they take a lot of space.
Mason & Hamlin, Estey, Smith American, New England, and most of the Canadian factories made 2M foot pumpers. Though the Canadian ones tend to be f-scale, but the US factories made them C-scale, more like a pipe organ (or european harmonium) keyboard.

They do not only take up space but are very heavy... I have two of them and I know all about their weight!

As far as "affordable" goes, I would regard that as a relative term. All or most of these old ones require some kind of work to make them sing properly. If you can find a restored one, such as those that were offered on this Forum recently by a member, one might have to invest a little more than just "affordable"... But to restore these ancient beauties is sufficient reward in most cases.

    Go for it!

It all depends on your location. In my area, there are always plenty of available reed organs to choose from. Craigslist is a common choice in USA, here in Canada Kijiji.ca is common. There is one listed now that that is not terribly far away that I wish I had the room for:

Best of luck in your search!

To play a reed organ or harmonium, it helps to disconnect your feet from your brain and connect them to your emotions.
Most of all, be creative, make music and have fun...
