    Specialty Compositions

I know there were some pieces that were specially written to be played on two organs, others for pedal-harpsichords, etc.*

What are some others, and are there any recordings of them being played?*

I remember someone on here showing a picture of an organ with two pedal clavier's, was there music written specifically for that?*

There seem to be recordings of the Fokker organ: http://www.xs4all.nl/~huygensf/english/instrum.html Micro-tonal stuff.
And here there arez some MP3's of such an instrument: http://members.aol.com/musikstamm/enharm.htm

Don't know if there was ever written special music for the 2 pedal instrument. Does it even still exsist?

Schumann wrote some pieces for pedal piano:

Op. 56 Six Pieces in Canonic Form,

Op. 58 Four Sketches for Pedal Piano

and Op. 60 Six Fugues on the name BACH for pedal piano or organ

Not sure whether there is a 2 pedal-clavier instrument in existence. However, I've heard somewhere of an organ upon which one can split the pedalboard into bass and treble and have independent registrations on each. Can't really think of a situation (apart from in a choral-improvisation, perhaps?) where this would really be essentially useful.

There is one in the Victoria and Albert Museum. Probably not in playing condition.

Alkan wrote his Treize prières (Opus 64) as well as an extended Impromptu (Opus 69) for pedal piano. And let us not forget that Franck dedicated his Grand Pièce symphonique to Alkan.

This sounds interesting. My father has a contact in the V&A - I'll have to see if we can get some more information.

I can recall an album of organ music played on pedal harpsichord by E. Power-Biggs, but that was back in the early 1970's
It's not what you play. It's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

Marcel Dupré's Nymphéas op.54 need all the features of the composer's home organ in Meudon:

    • 73 note compass,

    • stops divided between bass and treble, and

    • a sostenuto device.
    • [/list]I don't know of any other instrument that has all of the above.

This seems to be one of those elusive works. Jeremy Filsell recorded it at Sarasota, but since no score exists for the reasons that acc mentioned - it cannot be played elsewhere - Filsell made his own arrangement for the recording. Rolande Falcinelli had recorded it previously, which I would guess, is the recording that he used as a base for transcription.
