    What about those tasty combos?

Now I might get a few rolling eyes but lets not forgetthe outrageous colors, simulated wood veneer, and silly psychedelic sounds (whoknew a song with a combo organ solo longer than the rest of the song would be popular even today?).Hate em or love em, they won't leaveus alone. Farfisa, fender, Vox, you name it we got it. Just google organ and eventually those flashy colors will fill your living room some late night. What in your opinion is the best combo organ? If happen to run in to one for a good deal would it be a good idea to buy it? (depending on model of course) Or are we "Too good" for combo organs?

Re: What about those tasty combos?

There are lots of threads already about this very subject, but I still enjoy reading them.
I used to have an old Cordovox CDX combo organ, which was a strange beast. This was back when a few buddies of mine toured our little town with our Doors cover band. Good times. I try to play "Light my Fire" or "Touch Me" on my Hammonds or Wurlitzer -but it just ain't the same. I miss the old reedy transistor sound, but thats what modern synthesizers are for

What's a combo organ? What's it a combinatino of? And what popular song are you referring to with a long organ solo? I'm lost when it comes to most pop music.

Here's one of my personal favorites:

If You've ever heard the Doors (especially "Light My Fire") they use a combo organ. Not this one though-this is a farfisa. I think the Doors used a Fender.

I don't think Fender made an organ. You might be referring to the Fender Rhodes Bass keyboard that sat on top of the (Vox?) organ you are thinking of. The Fender Rhodes Bass had about a 3 octave keyboard.

Is that what the doors use? I cant remember.

What defines a combo organ: Portability, plastic, pretty colors and transistors.

A combo organ is one that includes both the pedals, (someimes the great manual) and the swell all in one.

Ray Manzarek had so many instruments during his time, that you can't possibly just pin one on him.

He started out using a WurliTzer electric piano and then Switched to the Vox Continental and Fender Keybass for the first two albums.
But he is mostly popular for using the Gibson G101.

He also used a Hammond in the studio and different electric Harpsichords.
