Atelier is in french more generaly used as "a workplace". So also garages fall under that marker.
I foundthe Wikipediadefinition of atelier interesting on a couple of levels: The French term for studio, atelier, in addition to designating an artist's studio is used to characterize the studio of a fashion designer. Atelier also has the connotation of being the home of an alchemist or wizard.
Roland has named one of their lines of digital organs Atelier. I have an interest in the AT-90SL. And I have long used the handle Gandalfe, adapted from the name of a more famous wizard. [H]

Thanks Havoc. What does your sigline, "Expert in non-working solutions" mean. Or have you already covered that somewhere else on the forum.
AFAIK not on this forum yet. I always want to try out things. Most of them don't work. Or at least not as intended. But it is educational...

And as you can see, I have used the name of his less famous cousin.
To fully understand the use of the word "atelier" as it is used in Paris, I would suggest you read the book, "The Piano Shop on the Left Bank: Discovering a Forgotten Passion in a Paris Atelier" by Thad Carhart. It is a wonderful read, and by the time you finish the book you will have experienced the full flavor of the word.
