Back in June, the New Zealand Association of Organists held their annual congress at Wellington. The guest performer was Olivier Latry. As well as performing with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Wellington Town Hall, Olivier gave a solo recital on the organ at the Wellington Anglican Cathedral of St Paul on the Sunday Afternoon of the congress weekend. The concert was recorded by Radio NZ Concert, and has recently been broadcast. One of the works performed at the recital was Olivier Latry's arrangement for two organists of Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" and he performed this work with Shin-Young Lee. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever heard played on the organ.
Radio NZ Concert have their recording of "The Rite of Spring" available as a free download from their website until the end of this month (September). You can CLICK HERE to listen to this recording, or if you wish to download and save it to your hard-drive as a mp3 file (50.8MB), then RIGHT-CLICK HERE and select "Save target as... and save it to your computer. The recording is 36min 57sec duration.
Also at the Radio NZ website, you can listen to an interview with Olivier Latry HERE; and you can read a review of the recital at Wellington Cathedral HERE on the "Middle-C" website.
