    Subscription idiosyncracies

I'm aware that if you don't visit a thread after your last email alert it stops alerting you, also that if you keep the page open on your browser it doesn't update you via email either, but I started a couple of threads this week including this one:

    http://www.organforum.com/forums/sho...n-quot-on-A029

And haven't received a single update even though I'm officially subscribed. I've taken to hovering on the "Hammond forum" page and clicking update every now and then. I guess THAT's keeping me from updates, but since it hadn't bee updating me anyhow I might miss out on the conversation at hand....

Does it sound like anything odd, or do I just have to make sure there are no forum pages kept open in my browser while I'm away.... and therefore aren't logged in?

    And I touched a 1958 M3 once.

I think you've figured it out. If you leave your browser open to a forum page, the site believes you are still connected and not in need of updates. (Actually, it's a bit more complicated than that, but the end result is the same.) I say "I think" because I'm not really sure, but it's a plausible explanation. In theory, you would have to be doing something, like hitting update now and then, for this to happen, but if you're on the home page, the chatbox is effectively doing that for you. There may be other pages where the browser periodically pings the server behind the scenes keeping the connection open (like AutoSave). I don't know of any way to test notifications other than closing your browser, navigating away from the site or signing out and waiting a day or so to see what notifications show up in your mailbox.

    Cheers.

I've replaced my organ forum shortcut with one that takes me straight to the Hammond page. It makes it easier to shut the page right down and get back there in a click.

Besides, If I leave the browser open all the time it's just going to chew up system resources I should be using for work.

    I'll see what happens now...
