    M-100 / M-102 factory preset registrations

Hello everybody! I'm new to this site.

I don't own any Hammond at all, just a Roland clone (VK-8M). As I provide keys for a Pink Floyd tribute band, I'm trying to get as close as possible to mr. Wright sounds. I know that he used to play a Hammond M-102, and I'm quite sure he didn't changed the factory presets of its instrument. I know he operated on tabs (as you can see in Live At Pompeii), changing his organ timbre. I hardly got to know that those tabs trigger percussion, vibrato, and recall preset registrations.

So, may you be so kind to list those registrations (XX XXXX XXX) out to me, also naming the corresponding tablet?
Do those presets work for both the manuals, or are there two specific sets of tabs?
Would you also lead me to any site where I can find infos and detailed photos about M-100 / M-102?

    Thank you in advance.

The presets for each manual are separate. The left most tab in each case activates the drawbars for manual control.
So, one of the four left tabs must be down or the organ will not produce any sound.
Upper: Drawbars - Trumpet - Clarinet - Full Organ
Lower: Drawbars - Flutes - Diapason - Ensemble

More technical but possibly of interest:

The schematic for the M-100 series shows equivalent drawbar settings for the presets. Presets for the upper and lower manuals are different.

You can find the service manual at the link below. It's the 233M PDF shown on the left side of the page.

Do you have time index or song (and youtube link) on the video that you are using as an example?

To emphasize my previous point: if he is using the left tab then he is actually using the drawbars - not a hardwired preset.
Also, it is possible to rewire the presets to any drawbar configuration you want.

To Sfp1954, you can see Rick Wright operate the M-102 in this video (in the intro you can also hear him playing the Farfisa Combo Compact Duo): http://youtu.be/hSsjxbRxgqY - just skip to minute 5:20.
And for the presets rewiring, as I already wrote, I doubt Wright ever did such a time-costly operation: he used the Hammond M-102 for just three or four years, from 1968 to 1972, while having recorded at least four albums with the Floyd and going around touring a lot... I'm well-disposed in thinking that he just fed factory preset sounds into external effect processors (the Leslie, the usual Binson Echorec, some Farfisa spring reverb unit, maybe some guitar amp).

FYI - if he's using factory presets he might actually be the only rock-and-roll guy on the planet to find a use for those horrible-sounding things (except maybe for "Full Organ").

The link you provided *clearly* shows him using drawbars, in fact, he is modulating his sound "live" with them as can be see around at 5:50. That is a standard Hammond technique.

Around 5:24 it looks he changes reverb or something, I'd have to look up the M-100 tab layout to know for sure.

BTW, great link, thanks for posting!

At 5:25, he's changing the preset to the Full Organ one.

For the end of 'A Saucerful of Secrets' he starts with the Clarinet preset (bm-gm chords) then changes to the Full Organ Preset. He is using a combination of the Diapason preset and the drawbars for the ending. If anyone has some insight into his settings for Echoes, I continue to be all ears
