Smile Might as well say it...

I bought another Mason & Hamlin organ.
Style 93bf. Walnut. With matching bench. On CL, about 130 miles away. At a great price, in fact I gave the guy an extra $20 for the bench because he hadn't mentioned it in the ad.
It was made in 1915, inscribed June 16, that year.
Still playable on the original bellows, of the leather and hardboard variety, with heavy-duty (cloth both sides) reservoir. Wow, what a survivor.

Stoplist is Sub bass Dolce 16'; Corno 8'; Diapason Dolce 8'; Diapason 8'; Viola 4'; Viola Dolce 4';Eolian Harp 2'; Vox Humana (fan); Octave Coupler (straight, up) Treble: Seraphone 8';Flute 4'; Diapason 8'; Corno 8'; Clarinet 16'; Voix Celeste 8'.
This is a very rare M&H with a second row of principal 8' reeds all the way through; Corno. It makes a big difference to the sound. They are the Liszt-scale (enlarged) reeds mounted upside down under the main action. it adds a great presence to the bass end, where a second 8' has always been the greatest shortcoming. Original catalog price was $400.00

Keyboard is f-scale with the break at b-mid c. So far I have cleaned it, repolished the case, replaced some bad felt, regulated the valves, re-felted the coupler and tuned it (it was already at 440!) The Diapason/Melodia has the nicest, roundest sound, with unmatched dynamic range of the swells. Everything is really well balanced, which is very important; the Full Organ brings on the extra Corno reeds, but not the celestes or the Clarinet, so the effect is powerful but in-tune and not muddied by the 16'.
The Sub Bass Dolce is a stroke of genius. So useful, why didn't it get used more?
I love the Clarinet stop sound, so warm and expressive. This is the one I have been wanting since I sold Artis Wodehouse my beautiful 86K about 8 years ago. Been a long dry spell without a f-scale M&H in the stable.

and there's a sub-album for the restoration of the coupler.

I hope to get a demo vid up at YT shortly, maybe this week, now that it's in good kit.

The issues still wanting are to take the action out, clean the bottom end (pallet valve work) and regulate the touch weight, because I know it can be made a whole lot lighter (bless those M&H adjustable valve springs!) But that's way off in the future, unless something breaks inside.

    Hi Casey,

Sounds as if we have a happy boy over there! Congratulations on the latest acquisition. Looking forward to hearing all the news as you get it back to how you want it, though it sounds as though you're well on the way already. Have fun!

    Cheers,

    Mark.
