Thanks for posting! I have heard about this clip and have been trying to locate it. Does anybody know what happened to his fancy new touring organ? I saw a computer model of this thing and it had a 49-note pedalboard, colored rocking tabs, and a supposedly adjustable speaker setup that can be changed from venue to venue. Also, what kind of bench is he sitting on?

I gather it was a project in conjunction with Torrance & Yaeger VPO . However, T&Y VPO was a failure, went no where and is now defunct.

I don't know who will be building "Excalibur." The San Francisco Sentinel stated it was going to debut in September (2010) - the article was written in March 2010...

    Exactly. Go Cameron.

It does look kind of like a howard seat, minus the swivel and padding.

Interesting piece. I totally support Cameron for his individuality and for the attention he brings to the instrument.

Not sure I agree completely with his rationale for digital organs. I certainly get the part about portability and having the instrument not tied to specific buildings (like churches), but for me, the uniqueness of each pipe organ and the fact that they are so massive and so much a part of the architecture physically and sonically is some of what makes the instrument appealing and sets it apart from all other instruments. Cameron's recording at St Mary the Virgin in NYC is more powerful to me than anything I've ever heard him do on a digital for this reason.

That said, I think this should be a both-and rather than an either-or. Great pipe organs played by great organists are great musical expressions. Great digital organs played by great organists are also great expression. The problem is much more mediocre or bad organs- pipe or electronic (but especially electronic) or organists, and there are plenty of those. Raising the standards of all that would be a noble goal.
