I don't worry about it wearing out. Sometimes I start mine, then turn it off a few minutes later without playing because a family member needs help with something. That's life. If the start motor goes kaput, I'll replace it.
I try not to turn my m102 on unless I intend to practice for at least 1/2 hour to an hour but sometimes, on days off from work, I have turned it on more than once. I just wonder about wear on the gen/ starter, etc. Would it benefit me to get a keyboard for practicing and reserve the Hammond for PLAYING?
Is repetitive starting something to worry about or not?

I haven't played mine much lately but when I bring a new Leslie in, I turn it on and off several times while I work out the kinks (testing the Leslie amp, speakers, motors, all together, etc). Doesn't seem to faze the organ.
Keyboards: 1972 Fender Rhodes Stage 73, M-111, A-100, M2 Desk(!), B3!
Spinny things: Wurlitzer Tone Cabs (500 and 420), PR-40, 31W, 31H, chopped 31H, 125 (empty cabinet), 30A!!!
there's times I've forgot and left them running for days, hammonds are tanks,I've yet to have any kind of motor go up on me,a start cap yes, tubes yes but everything else will be running long after I'm not I'm sure
The most common problem for generators is a lack of oil which is easy to avoid. The motors seem to be even more reliable. If you want to play your Hammond for 5 minutes a day go for it. You are more likely create problems on an electronic keyboard than on a Hammond.

1956 M3, 130 custom leslie, 51 Leslie, 860 Leslie with Preamp, S08 Yamaha and K2000S, Young Chang 85 key spinet and Korg SV-1 73less Hammonds, downsized they found a good home
Hmm, all this talk made me want to fire up the A-100/31H combo. Don't really feel like playing at the moment (too tired) but I'll let em run. They've been unplugged since we moved the 31(W) out of my living room. Got em running in the background right now, relatively quiet, even though the A-100 has the lockdown bolts in.

That's all fantastic news, then. Wasn't looking forward to having a plastic keyboard cluttering my office.
