Jamestown Pagans - New rock Three Piece worth a listen!

One of our forum members is the organist in this three piece in LA:
    jamestownpagans.bandcamp.com

I'd had a chat with Chris earlier about Atomic Rooster and about using pedals in a rock type of setting.

I had a listen to the tunes on the above link a few times through and then decided I'd buy a copy of 'em.
There's a bit of the familiar in there and also a blend of the new.
Once I'd gotten the lot into my brain it settled VERY nicely into a listening experience both comfortable and powerful.

It's like modern rock has found a precious heirloom left by its dad and wears it proudly.

It's like that moment when Indy was first given his Fedora. "Yup, this is good..."

Go on, send the wife and kids out on an errand of some sort and try this lot up loud.

Then come back and tell me what influences you can pick out.

Incidentally, our comrade in arms on the Hammond is Chris: http://www.organforum.com/forums/mem...522-chrisbhurt

Hopefully he'll see this thread and pop in with some comment on where they play and so on.

Hello fellow organists! Here is a link to our YouTube channel. There are some videos from one of our recent shows in Los Angeles. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCusu...e=results_main

Dang! I missed this post, for some reason my subscriptions haven't been emailing to me.

I love listening to the bass lines on these clips and realizing you're playing 'em on the pedals. What model Ham are you playing?

I played a B3 & Leslie 122. Not sure the years on them since I had to rent them from a guy (we did the record in Seattle). A lot of the record has bass pedals with left-hand bass overdubbed. Our engineer was having trouble getting more out of the pedals since they are so "sub-ey." So he had me go over pretty much everything with left-hand bass since it was easier to work with. Though there are certain sections of just pedals that I think sound particularly good. Especially with EQ'ing the pedal tone. "Mirrors" is all left-hand bass though I play pedals live. Next time we record I want to pull the 8' pedal drawbar out more so that there's more tone there to hear and shape. I play with it out a lot live and it's a nice sound, especially with the Leslie cranked and getting that break up. Almost gives the effect of a guitar playing power chords or something.
