I would imagine it's similar to building a wall..When you start building a brick wall the first brick you lay is the MOST important one because all of the subsequent bricks are squared up to that first one..

Great video, the only thing I have to add is that I like to do all the white keys first.

Actually, one must do the white keys first, as the black keys prevent some white keys from being removed.

If your keys are not aligned upon assembly, my bet is that the springs are not engaged with the posts...the video shows what I am referring to.

Just to make sure there are no issues, I normally keep all the keys in order when I remove them.

I have, however, removed keys and randomly replaced them, and have not seen any alighment problems. I have replaced many keys with replacements from donor organs, and have never seen any misalignment (only color differences). I had an H262 here that required 50 new keys, and not one was out of alignment after assembly.
I don't know if my experience is typical, but it is what it is.
As far as the top alignment, the upstop felt on the front rail aligns the waterfall keys, the keycomb aligns the diving board keys. If felt and keycombs are not grossly bent up, there should be no problems.
In and out alignment is a function of the return spring; if you try bending this, however, you will also change the spring pressure.

    In reality, there is.

I'm late to the party on account of I had to finish a novel off... sure the case got solved, but dammit, the writer flicked off the more interesting, quirky and more developed secondary chick character, keeping the boring one as the main character's gal. I'm gonna have to write to the guy...

Ahem, anyhow. those sounding notes are just because the tab on the channel needs readjusting, easier than taking 'em off again.

As for getting the keys seated nicely... too late now for this, of course.... I find tightening the screw partly then rotating the key slightly left and right a cupla times gets the holes seated on the dimples back there nicely, then ya can tighten it up the rest of the way.
