Perhaps the term "Reputation" is not a good choice. If we are judging the value of a post then it may be better to call it a "Value" rating. Not as personal and more palatable.

it is based on perception....just like life........whether someones rating is based on knowledge, humour (or lack of)or some other quality we are just words on a screen, so race, creed, orientation, and many worldly things become unknown and unimportant, we either teach, learn, debate or laugh, I like all of the above.

I don't know .. I think this will be just like the admin said ... so few people even bother to participate in the "tags" system that it's unlikely that the reputaion system will be abused on a large scale. Here-n-there we'll have heros and zeros, I mean we all pretty much know who among us is well liked, and who among us is simply tolerated so it isn't like this reputation gig will reveal anything we don't already know.

Yea, there is the potential for abuse ... that potential exists in every freedom we are privleged with .. but I don't think that it will become out of hand. Most of us got out of high school a loooong time ago, and most members act their age here. I'm sure the occassional pissing contest will yield the occassional black mark but I'm sure the mods and admins will know the difference between a legit black mark and sour grapes and handle things accordingly. I know I have (perhaps more than) my share of anti-fans here and I may be targetted by a few of them. Bring it! I've never much given a ... ~ahem~ ... *hoot* what others' opine of my writings ... I figure that's what the ignore button is for. If someone doesn't like the tune I'm blowin, seek other music .... shutting me up is a simple mouseclick away.

I had thought that a certain type of genocide could be accomplished with this system .. "genre cleansing" and whathaveyou ... the classicals cleansing the rockers from the forum, or vice-verse. But c'mon .. really? I rethought that notion and considered it more TV Movie Of The Week than reality.

Naw .. I think anyone afraid of this system is easily frightened. It'll be fine.

    Chance for abuse? Maybe. Sometimes.

    So?

I'm 58,going on 59,not on Facebook,or any other social media. I got to play my A100 at a gig on Saltsping Island last Saturday night, for that any many other things I am truly grateful.
I like to help where I can,and base my opinions on personal experience.I'm not on here every day,all the time. When I play a gig, usually there is someone
who liked it,the ones who didn't seldom make their opinions known to me,which is too bad in that critique and knowledge has been the basis of any improvement of my playing or technical skills.
Discussion of Hammond/Leslie on any forum is fine by me.I'm always willing to listen and learn, and generally read more than post.Off topic......the wife and I saw two pods of orcas off Mayne island
on the way back to the mainland Sunday.....wow.

How does reputation go down? Also, how does it go down when no one has given negative reputation? Is the frequency of sign-on part of the ratio?

It doesn't go down unless members give you negative rep-points. It just doesn't go down because you're not posting. Read the first postings in this thread again. It's really quite simple.

Be active and offer a lot of useful things to say and people will give you positive marks.

Your explanation and that of Admin at the beginning of this thread have piqued my curiosity, though. A couple of weeks ago, my reputation was 5 bars with no negative feedback. However, it is now 2-1/2 bars with still no negative or neutral feedback. I'm looking at your response and that of Admin, and it's still not making sense. Of course, the jump to 5 bars didn't make sense at the time, but it still makes me curious.

    Michael

P.S. It's not that I really care about it, but I am a stickler for things working as they should--especially if I am to participate by providing positive feedback for others.

I don't recall seeing your reputation at 5 bars, but you are notified whenever your reputation goes up or down. You'd have to see a lot of negative notifications to go from 5 to 3 bars. If you haven't seen them, chalk it up to either a faulty human memory or a glitch.
