should the wiki be part of the forum?

Today I saw for the first time the Wiki as part of the forum. I don't have any opinion on the Wiki itself, but I don't feel it has anyhing to do inside the forum. Why?

Well, the forum is a place to ask questions/guidance/discuss about something specific. For me the Wiki should be a place of more "definite" answers to questions. By incorporating the Wiki into the forum it invites to be used in the same way: general questions and chit-chat.

I understand the need to make it visible (certainly in the beginning) but I think this is the wrong way to do so. There are already more than enough sub-forums and adding some that are not even a forum will only dilute it more.

The Organ Wiki is a great idea and it belongs here on this site. Like the general Wikipedia itself, it is not a forum for debate, but rather a repository of information to which querying posters can be referred rather than having the same people repeating the same information ad nauseum to newbies, which is the situation we have at present.

The Wiki most definitely needs to be moderated and I would say it also needs to be edited, that is, content needs to be checked for correctness and clarity before it is published. "Admin" has posted elsewhere that there will be some sort of moderation process on authors, at least at the outset.

There is little danger that the Wiki will be used for chit-chat as it is article based, not discussion based. Like most wikis and blogs there is a provision for commenting on or discussing articles much like a forum discussion, but that's not the essence of the wiki and can be either disabled entirely or limited in scope.

Currently, there is a forum on the home page under which Wiki namespaces appear. This simply provides a convenient way of accessing the Wiki and can be removed so that the only means of access is through the Wiki tab. The Wiki is in a very early development phase right now, so we'll be experimenting with different ways of integrating and organizing the Wiki. What you see today may change tomorrow.

    Comments and suggestions are welcome.

I am very concerned about the fact that I suddenly must scroll through pages of Hammond Wiki to find the few things that I really am interested in. Perhaps we should split "Hammond" off into a separate Forum? SIGH!

The only reason that you might have to scroll through Wiki content is if you're using the New Posts feature of the Forum and a lot of content happened to be created in the Wiki since your last visit.

Thi Wiki is under construction right now, so there may be times, like today, where there are many new articles being added and you'll get a very long list of new posts. Expect this to be the case as the framework of the Wiki is constructed.

How to avoid seeing those Forums that you have no interest in has been discussed before. There is no way to filter the New Posts list. Basically, there are two very effective alternatives to using New Posts

    Customize Your Home Page
Collapse those Forums you are not interested in on the home page. Then use the standard Forum iconography to identify those topics with new posts. You can change the sort order of posts so that new posts are displayed first.

Subscribe To The Forums and Threads You're Interested In

How to that is discussed here: http://www.organforum.com/forums/sho...l=1#post277252

The Hammond Forum will forever be a part of the Organ Forum.

Havoc I agree 100%. I do, however, give Admin credit for trying but what next...a "Organ Forum Google Button"?
I will now have to learn how to create my homepage on this site and eliminate all the areas that I have no interest in...sigh

I guess I don't understand. Are you doing this to avoid seeing articles in New Posts as they are being added to the Wiki?
