I only have this mentioned problem after I sign in---in the midst of a thread and then try to hit the back button....like I want to go back to the main forum page. I actually use Google Chrome and most the time do not have issues. My problem is when I go to reply to a posting and it again tells me that I need to sign in after I had already signed in.....all and all though a great forum!

I've temporarily disabled the Facebook integration. Let me know if the issue with back button improves.

It's interesting because initially I was seeing google links in the history but I've not seen them for several days. I've never seen facebook links.

Also worth noting is any third party toolbars that you might be using

OK, I've been to the "Program" "Add-on" place and disabled a bunch of them. We'll see if it helps.

Just for the record, in case anyone else is having difficulties: I had this same problem, first with the static.ak.facebook address, and then more recently with the googleads.doubleclick address. Like David, I did numerous scans for viruses, malware, spyware, etc., with no hits. I also tried blocking the offending sites, with no effect.

Then I hit on something that worked. In IE 8, I went to Tools/Internet Options/Security tab/Restricted Sites/Sites, and actually entered organforum.com as a restricted site. This allows me to navigate to, and utilize, the site normally; but seems to block the odd behavior in question. YMMV but good luck...

I haven't tested with Internet Explorer, but now I"ll try it.

It's a common problem with Opera, even on the latest version. Turning off Java in scripting site preferences via F12 will fix it. If you need Java for a specific purpose, toggle it back on.

Thanks for that last tip. I disabled javascript only for this site and it worked well with opera.

I do not recommend disabling javascript as it is typically the backbone of most modern websites, including this one. Having said that, I'm not aware of precisely what features of this site are dependent upon javascript. I suspect however that anything other than the plain text editor among the editors on this site rely upon javascript. If disabling javascript solves the back button problem for you without impacting your ability to use the site, by all means do that. Just be aware that you may experience far greater and unexpected annoyances as a result.

The problem with backbutton is that urls that are secondary to displaying a given page are being inserted between the previous and current page in the browser history requiring multiple clicks of the backbutton. These are most likely being inserted by the ads generated by google that keep this site solvent. Turning off scripting will likely prevent the problem, but on the other hand, I've gone several weeks at a time without the backbutton problem, so the problem isn't consistant. I think a less draconian solution to the problem would be to identify the troublesome urls in the history, and adding them to your blocked site list.

That's why I only disable it for websites that give troubles. So far I haven't come across issues but I don't use more than the "Quick Reply" box. It's easy and fast.

While you might be right that blocking the offending urls is a better way to go, I just don't have the time to spend a whole evening digging through histories and adding to blocking lists. I'm following more than a few forums. And quite a few have gone haywire these days. Now if a forum makes my time I spend on it frustrating then I just leave it (*). If a small fix can make it bearable I stay. Honestly, there are more than enough forums about more subjects that I want to know.

(*) some forums switched to phpbb3 and since then you have to visit each and every subforum or mark everything as read or they keep everything marked as having new items. Which makes forums where you don't follow everything a pita to use. So I dropped out of a few recently because of that.

EDIT: It suddenly dawned on me that this forum also works like this. Is there a way to make this an option: "mark only forums with new posts since my last visit as having new posts"? Here it isn't a big issue as I only follow a minor part of the forum so I just skip a lot but it would be nice.

Yes, by all means, I encourage people to do what works for them. Just wanted to let people know that disabling javascript may result in other problems.

I know what you're talking about on the new phpbb boards. One forum that I frequent recently switched from VBulletin to it, and although I like the layout, not being able mark threads as read or order the threads and posts in any way is a real step backwards. I think there may be a trend to make things appear as Facebook or Google+. I don't have problem with that provided that useful options are not deleted in the name of simplicity.
