Marc I use old english on both my Conn 650 and 651. Use the lighter oil for the lighter wood and the darker oil on the darker wood. Works great for me. How ever my big Conn Custom 905 I use pledge......it seems to have a protective coat on the finish that a oil wouldn't do much for. I use a cream polish on my Rodgers....only cause it says so. Try each method separately on your lower back panel first. Now go forth and record us some music via YouTube!!

By the way, I was hanging some pictures the other day with this picture hanging kit that I got at Home Depot....comes with different hooks and really small diameter wire rope....just as pliable as the vinyl rod insert....Hmmmmm??? I'm wondering if.....? I'll let you know!

I've read that any polish with silicone is not good. I've also read that using a solution of 1/2 white vinegar to 1/2 water can be used to remove wax/polish build-up, then some type of wax. I don't mind taking time to preserve/enhance the finish, I just want to know what wax [or?] is best? Most canned polish's do not produce a lasting finish/shine. I used Scott's Liquid Gold, and it was terrible. Now my finish is dull and almost 'sticky'.. and I didn't use a lot. So now, I want to know if vinegar is best to remove the old stuff, or something else..Then which wax/? is best... Thanks..
I read somewhere that a person who has a 650, replaced the nylon rods with 'N' gauge model railroad track. He said it worked great - and a lot cheaper than gold... Dunno.. He also used 'proper' ohmage resisitors to compensate for the track.. At this point, I will wait until the nylon 'wears out', then as I can afford to, buy the gold rods... Right now, replacing the felts in the Bass unit is top priority.. Marc

    It is probably nitrocellulose lacquer.
I would clean old wax or polish off with naphtha, then use a good paste wax like Johnson's or Butchers.

Cool! Thanks Casey! I'll give that a try, and when I do, I'll report my results! I'm so happy someone[s] replied to my question! -- Marc

Yes, Marc, I keep a can of Johnson paste wax under the kitchen sink at all times. Nice finish and also very good for your kitchen appliances. Started using it in the kitchen when Johnson stopped distributing "Jubilee" formula for the kitchen.

    It's Ready!

It took awhile, but my first 'real' video is up on my YouTube channel... I still don't have a professional mic, I used my Pentax K5 camera for both the 1080p video, and it's internal mic.. I still need to install felt pads to get rid of the noises, but I hope you all will like my little video! I'm working on Mairzy Doats.. Here's the link to my video "By the Sea".. --- Marc

Nicely Done! Your string/reeds work great on your upper manual! Mine are either erratic or non-existent. Same wood as my 650 as well. Are still getting that Leslie speaker? That would be a great addition!

Thanks! I do have a few notes on some stops that don't sound, but overall, they're OK.. I have sent a few emails to the guy who has the Leslie, and he hasn't answered. It's possible I've lost that contact. He even had some pipe-units for me.. Maybe I'll find another source.. I'm working on 'Shenandoah' next.. I was inspired by some of George Wright's registrations, and wonderfully enough, the 650 can replicate them! I'm also trying to think of a Hymn or Christian song.. Marc
