    Living inside a pipe organ...

Organs vary in sizes greatly, but all over the world there are certainly pipe organs that are large enough with chambers that have enough free space where a person could comfortably live -- even more, most people do not know how to get to the chambers and wouldn't think twice about it being an issue.
Has anyone ever lived inside a pipe organ?

Since the first time I stepped inside a semi-large pipe chamber I thought to myself: "This would be a cool place to live". Enough room for a small cot, microwave, and a table. Its pre-decorated (I'm sure if I had a home, I'd fill it with operational pipes), climate controlled, and in general comfortable.
Am I crazy to think this?
    My instruments:
Home: A late 50's to early 60's Conn 720 (tube powered, of course)
One reed organ; in pieces at the moment pending a helping hand to do some gluing.
Two pianos (upright grand and a spinet) and an accordion (Hohner)
    Church:
    Hammond A-105 with Leslie speakers
    1979 Allen 123-C (MOS1) digital computer organ

I don't know how to search on this, but there is indeed a member here who reported, in the last 6-8 months, a situation which indeed should help answer the question. He noted strange malfunctions or changes in the organ, and ultimately discoved a homeless person in some part of the organ chamber. I believe the authorities were contacted, and the situation was resolved without involuntary incarceration elsewhere. Wait---he may respond.

    Zylstra,

In Brooklyn, New York there was a fellow living inside the organ there. He worked for some telecommunications company, and had an agreement with the church to repair the organ as needed. In the last couple of years ago, I learned the church burned down, and the organ with it. Not sure if it started in the organ or not, but he did live there for years rather than commute from home to work each day.

The church was Baptist Temple on Schimmerhorn (Sp?) Street in Brooklyn. I hope that answers your question.

Way too many organs to list, but I do have 3 Allens:
    • MOS-2 Model 505-B / ADC-4300-DKC / ADC-6000 (Symphony)
    • 9 Pump Organs, 1 Pipe Organ & 4 Pianos

I`ve never actually lived in a pipe organ-spent many hours practicing at the console, which has sometimes been an intrigal part(inside) and have had my sandwiches with me-does that count??
