Adding external power to leslie 710

    Hi,

I'm planning on adding an external power plug (kettle lead type) to a leslie 710. (..and jack input/crossover/preamp..)

Referring to the pin connections stated here: http://www.dairiki.org/HammondWiki/Leslie710 ....

Does the AC power not need to be earthed? I assume the pin 1 ground is just for speed switching and audio ground isn't it?

    Thanks in advance!

    Luke

Yup, you got it right with pin 1.

I'm NOT an electrician, but I l believe the third pin on your kettle socket can be attached to the 710's power supply chassis.

At least, that's where I've put it. If I'm wrong I'd better fix it!

Hopefully an expert will chime in.

So your DIY 760 used to be a 710? I don't think I'm going to go down the route of replacing the rotosonic yet (is it a lot of effort?) I just wanted to make it suitable for jack input to start.

Yup, the power supply and amp chassis was from a 710, donated by a kindly friend in the UK for the price of postage.... which came to $220.

I'm planning on doing a jack in for my spinet too, so I don't have to unplug the C3.

I expect the wires could go in parallel with those from the 9 pin plug, though you've also got the two channel nature of the 710 to deal with... where the bass goes off to the stationery channel.

You could also put a jack in there to control the motor switching. If you just used off and fast, you could plug in a keyboard sustain pedal or something.

check my thread a modded spinet rotor fits right in with 6 screws, re-spring the motor to work on the different plane and cut out the spinet box for a larger (15") speaker

worked really well but i screwed up the crossover, should have bought the adapter kit but I was using a 130 amp and cooked something, but the rotor part worked great, sounded great....just haven't got back to it lately, i started modding another driver I got for free to replace the cooked V-21 and crossover but life (and other instruments and amps) got in the way.

Just checked out your thread and it does seem to fit perfectly doesnt it. So you removed most of the wood casing from the leslie unit, could i use the existing rotosonic motor to spin this drum do you think? I would probably keep it double channel to avoid crossover problems!

hey, I was just thinking if I'm going to stick with the original amp and crossover inside but do your foam rotor mod, could I just take the wires from the rotosonic and connect them to the bass speaker and just not use the stationary channel? I wouldn't need the extra crossover to stop the rotosonic from blowing either would I.
