Footswitch for leslie speed - any ideas?

    Hi All,

I have a Hammond chop with a Trek II ts-2 leslie switch fitted to the lower left 'cheek'. I was wondering what the options are with regard to adding a footswitch to control the Leslie speed...??

    Regards,

I have been thinkking about this recently.

I put a TS 2-3 on mine recently to run an EIS relay in the Leslie. In the EIS leaflet it said an added foot switch would only give you stop, or what ever speed the TS 2 was at. So I thought the only thing you could do is have a double pole switch intercepting the wires from the TS 2 to the hookup kit so that you can use EITHER a foot switch or TS 2. I think Bob at EIS is developing a controller but there seems to be a delay due to poor health.

If you have a standard Leslie relay ignore my bit about EIS but I still think the only way is to have a switch to toggle between footswitch and TS2

    Cheers

    Thanks for posting Dave,

I'm running a standard relay in my 147, which naturally doesn't have any 'stop' option. Does the EIS relay allow you to stop the rotors, aswell as trem/chorale?

I assume as there are only two wires from the leslie plug to the TS 2 it's a simple make/break switch, albeit there are a couple of capacitors (?) in the circuitry and I don't know the purpose of these..?? (I have very basic electronic knowledge!)

I'm wondering if it would be possible to wire an additional 'momentary' switch to the TS 2 wired in parallel with the existing switch?

    Any opinions greatly appreciated!

    Regards,

    Julian

    Hi Julian

Yes the EIS gives you the stop function in between chorale and tremolo. I had rebuilt the amp and replaced the moving parts in my 122 and found that after a couple of hours playing the original relay used to stick so to complete the job I got one of the EIS Mark II relays from Mike at TrekII.

The clever thing about it is that on a three position switch there is a capacitor that you add to the centre position contact which brings the normal signal down to 12 volts which the EIS relay picks up as a signal to stop. My TS 2 switch has three positions because it is designed to go with this relay so the capacitor is built in. So yes it only uses the two original wires.

The other beauty of the EIS relay is that you can either go from tremolo to stop and the slow motor brakes the rotors [brake] OR you can go from tremolo to chorale to stop and it cuts power to the fast motors without braking so they spin down in their own time [coast]. This is great for some of that single speed Leslie Steve Winwood style. The tremolo has a great character winding up from stop position too.

The schematics on the EIS instructions as I said in my first post show that if you add a switch in parallel it will onlyswitch between stop and what ever you set the switch to unfortunately. That is why I suggested having a switch on the pedal for fast slow AND a switch that diverts the two wires from your hook up box to EITHER the TS2 or the foot controller.

If you PM me an appropriate email address I will send you a scan of the info on the relay and the switching schematic.

    Cheers

    Dave

Many of the larger LSI models had this very feature built in at the swell pedal so it so be no problem to replicate.

    Hello,

Just wondering if I could see a pic or two of your chop?

The tolex covering looks really cool!

    Cheers,
