Hi all!:-> ..Well here we go AGAIN with another 720 issue..Now that i have the factory power supply working well as a speed control for the motors only i'm having an issue with it..It would seem one of the relays must be sticking..Sometimes i'll power up the Leslie PS will emit a loud BUZZ and both of the Tremolo (fast) speed motors will rotate but super slow!! If i switch the power switch on and off a couple times it will "unstick" itself and work fine...What would cause this? (My friend's D.I.Y. 9 pin Leslie is having a similar issue believe it or not :-( Only his is with the Chorale (slow) speed motors) Any help would be..Well HELPFUL!!!! :-) Thanks a lot for the help..
I've had my 147 working with my Model A for awhile now, and everything has been just fine, until a few days ago when I got nasty distortion at all...

I've had my 147 working with my Model A for awhile now, and everything has been just fine, until a few days ago when I got nasty distortion at all volume levels. I promptly turned it off and ordered a replacement can cap (yes, I've now learned my lesson about preemptively replacing them). I don't think it's the can though; I put the new one in and got a big POP and the external fuse blew upon startup. (This is a very late model, with the internal pigtail 1.5A fuse in addition to the 2A external fuse)

The fuse doesn't blow with the output tubes removed, so I initially suspected those. I very much doubt that they're at the end of their life though, as the Leslie was originally installed in a church as an auxiliary for the Rodgers installation (no Hammond) and disconnected after a few years (organist didn't like it), and then sat there until I got it.

I'll order a new pair of 6550s to test, but it looks like I might be able to use 6L6s based on the plate voltage... is that OK?

The voltage after the rectifier is more than 500VDC, the limit of my cheap ratshack multimeter, as are the PS voltages further down the line. Is this because I have the output tubes pulled, or might it be a PT/rectifier problem? The PT secondary before the rectifier measures about 367VAC--is that in the ballpark? Wall voltage is 122 VAC

Thanks for any advice!

EDIT: I put in a pair of 6L6s and the fuse doesn't blow, the tubes light up normally (no red plating) but I get a very loud 60hz hum (volume all the way down). The hum starts right when I power on, before the tubes warm up--that implies that the problem is after the tubes, right? Voltages are still way high.

I've ruled out the preamp by powering the Leslie amp up on the bench (aka basement counter) using a 16 ohm speaker and applying AC to pins 3 and 4, with the same result.

DIY Connector kit A-100 to Leslie 860

Since I may be picking up a Leslie 860 in the near future, I'm trying to plan out my DIY connector kit. After planning out using the info from Uncle Harvey's guide to Leslie Pin-Outs (http://www.captain-foldback.com/Leslie_sub/pinouts.htm) I've got some remaining questions.

1. What input voltage (ish) does the 860 expect on pin 1?
I want to take my feed from the speaker output on the AO-39, not a G terminal of the preamp. Reason being: I've done some modification to my AO-39, the low pass is removed and I'm installing an adjustable drive ganged pot between R3, R4, and the signal path. This should allow me, at zero impedance, to have stock response, and at infinite impedance, to have my current Jon Lord mess of sound, and inbetween somewhere, dial in on this A-100 the amount of extra drive I already have been using in my clonewheel and made part of my sound for The Long Black Veils.

Since this will be speaker level, I know I'll have to have a voltage drop before I let the signal tap to the Leslie, but I don't know how much of a drop.

2. Is an isolation transformer a good idea? Is it a waste of money? I don't really understand yet myself, but I've heard it mentioned, and not ever poking my nose inside a Leslie hookup kit, I figured I'd ask.

3. Should I electrically tie pins 4 and 5 together? According to the pinout guide, they are usually tied together at the organ. 4 is speaker/input ground. (Would be right to black on the AO-39.) 5 is the control circuit common, and grounding any of pins 6-8 to it activates the relevant item.

Thanks.

Hi all! :-> I'm presently in the process of rebuilding my Leslie 720 into a high power "HOT ROD" Leslie... I think i found a pretty good compression driver to replace the buzzy original... The Selenium D250-X HD ( http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-204) seems to fit the bill rather nicely ( the price is nice too :-) ).... My plan is to power the 720 with separate amp in the 100-150 Watt range.... I'm confused as to which crossover i should use... This crossover http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=290-630 would SEEM to me to be the right choice as it fits the specs of the driver rather closely..Any help would be much appreciated...

Hi everybody I'm new here in the forum, I'm from Italy and I'd like to make myself (with a little help from a good carpenter) a custom leslie 147.
I'm looking for a complete design chart / picture of the wooden cabinet so I can give it to the carpenter I most trust in to create the cabinet..
What I need is:

-Front panel, lateral panels, roof, base, horn/upper motor baffle, woofer/lower rotor baffle design with measurement.
Is not important the rear panels, cos' I'd like to make them my own version, I think without louvres.
Also thickness is important, isn't it?
Also, if you have any suggestion about the material, don't hesitate to give some.

On the internet I can't find any original pdf / jpg version of Leslie cabinet designs, neither I can't find any design or guideline made by DIYers..

So, if anyone can help me, I'm very glad!

Thank you so much for your help and sorry for my poor English.

Just A THOUGHT about adapting a type III to work with a 51 Leslie by adding a six pin socket. I know the aftermarket units have 6/9/11 sockets.
You would need to add a relay, an additional footswitch or a 2 pole footswitch as a minimum as well as the 6 pin receptacle. I would want the 51 stock electrically except it will be 2 speed.
As I have a preamp, it would be nice to run my VR700 thru something that has some bass to it, the 860 is so lacking I run another amp with Bass full up and mid/treble off as a poor man's sub.
Am I missing anything else that would be a dealbreaker?:-P

I just received a Leslie 122a. Sounds great but servo motors and even the
mounts (wood, screws, everything) is missing. Somebody must have been
picking parts off of this thing. Anybody have used parts out there? I'm
wondering if I don't find the parts, will the parts that are here have much value?
It actually sounds fairly decent, shame to part it out. It's parked right
next to my vintage 122 and having tried them side by side the 122a is a
little brighter, but not as much as I thought it would be. Maybe the horn was
facing away from me.
Thanks in advance.
