Hi all,
I am new to the organ forum, so please be patient with me as I learn the ropes of the forum:-).
I currently play for my home southern baptist church that I have attended since birth. In mid 2012, I was elected (baptist way of saying hired) as assistant organist of the church. My duties consisted solely of playing the preludes before the Sunday services and filling in for the organist. Well, little did I know that I was going to be the one to get all the playing responsibilities slacked off on. Our principal organist and pianist are supposed to take turns playing for our Wednesday night service. They are payed to do this. Well our principal organist has never shown up and up until about four months ago, our pianist was there maybe once a month. This left me to take this responsibility, one I would really rather not have even though I go to the service anyway. Well four months ago our pianist had knee surgery which took her off the bench for around 3 1/2 months. Our organist moved over to the piano and myself up to the organ full time. I was happy to take up the responsibilities of organist. This included handling choir practice, Wednesday night, and playing for our senior adult class on Sunday morning. Now that our pianist has returned, she seems to have no interest in taking back her full responsibilities. Our organist, now back on the organ, is also not taking up her responsibilities fully. Neither of them are practicing much and it is really showing. When I played I made it a point to be at the church Wednesday before service practicing, Saturday for around 4 hours practicing and early Sunday morning. Their lack of practice and attention to detail is starting to anger the congregation. Many are wondering why we are keeping them. I've know the organist and pianist all my life and don't want to necessarily hurt them, but I am absolutely fed up with taking on responsibilities that are not in my job description, not getting paid for it, and getting nasty remarks from the pianist when I try to even ask about this. I'll take anyone's opinion on what to do. Thanks for listening to my rant!:-)

P.S. the pastor does know about this but for some reason is taking no action. Also, I understand it takes a while to recover from this type of surgery, but she should say when she is fully returning to her duties instead of being nasty.
