Hello, for a work of fiction I'm writing, how would a child or early teen learn to play a large church organ at the end of the 18th century (in Northern Europe)? Are there any books or articles I can consult? Online searches to date have not been helpful.

I am interested in knowing what he (probably "he") would learn first. If the child could already play the piano, what would his first lessons cover? How could those short legs reach the pedals? Were there typically two keyboards and could a child or young teen reach all the keys? What other difficulties would he encounter? I am assuming that organs at that time were "powered" by human-operated bellows, correct? I am not an organist myself (only a fan :-) Thanks very much! Lindegard

Folks,

In a few months, I will be playing the following instrument for a special event at the church. Can anyone tell me more about the organ? I have not heard or seen it yet, but am curious about how to register the 8' Aliquoten stop on the Swell--whether I'll need to pair it with an 8' stop, or if it's simply a combination of the mutations on the same manual, or if it's even usable. It's placed in the position of a Reed stop, but I don't think that's what it is. I have to choose literature for the organ, and need some guidance.

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys.

I do not know much about organs and stuff, but my dad plays on a home organ and has a pipe organ at work. I was wondering if someone got the notes or what it is called.. for Lord of the rings - song, i prefer "The Shire". It would be cool to hear it while my dad is playing it. I have searched the web for 10-15 minutes, but i only got people playing it on Youtube. I thought maybe some of you guys at this website could help me?

I am from Norway, Trondheim. Maybe you heard of Nidarosdomen? Quite big organ inside that church. Anyways, thanks for help.

Let me start with this...I don't have or ever played a Pipe Organ. What I do have is this, a Roland AT900 that I just upgraded with their Upgrade and Expansion Package which included a lot of Rodgers Pipe Voices. My question to the "Pipe People" here is, where can I get information regarding registrations? I have no idea what these voices are and what goes with what. I have been playing for 39 years and have only had electronic Organs as you can see by my history in my signature. I have not been able to find any books on pipe registrations. I figured that this would be the best place to continue to look. Thanks!
