Walking through Wall-mart yesterday, I saw that Disney had released an expanded DVD version of their old potpourii of animated musical shorts from the late 40's called "Melody Time" This is interesting to us because of the vignette of Ethel Smith halfway through in which she plays a snappy latin tune (not tico tico) to cheer up Donald Duck ET ALIUS AVES.
As best I can tell, she is using a BV without a leslie, until a red woody woodpecker clone blows it up. Technology for a real+animated scenario was impressive for the time.

I must have seen in first in 1947 or 48, just before I started kindergarten, and again in various sequences on TV "Disneyland" in the early to middle '50s. For those who have not seen it on VHS recently, it is still cute, and the grandkids will enjoy the other segments too.
Impressions?

I saw this on TV a few days ago. Just the Ethel Smith Part. She is amazing.
