Hello,

I checked out the free Lowrey organ from this thread (/forums/thread/34487.aspx) and ran into a few problems, so I have a few questions for you guys that have more experience with Lowreys than me.

The only sounds I could get were from the pedals and the brass symphoniser. None of the solo or accompaniment tabs would give any sound when played. On the accompaniment manual, a faint repeating clicking sound could be heard whenever it was played, on all keys, regardless of registration.

Looking through some Lowrey brochures, they mention L.S.I technology - Large Scale Integration. This sounds like the same thing Hammond did around the same time period. Are they at all similar? I know with the Concordes, and other LSIs, many problems could be solved by removing boards and cleaning contacts, then re-inserting them. Are the LSI Lowreys the same way?

Any ideas/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Don't think anyone else had LSI technology like the Hammond, which had one chip doing all the dividing of the frequencies. I think that Lowrey was pretty much transistors and basic IC's. I haven't seen inside one since 1974, when the tyre dealer, next door to the club where I played, lost all his stock in a mysterious fire. The heat was so intense, that it damaged some of the IC's in the organ.

As to that problem, checking over connectors is always a good starting point. I seem to recall that the Brass Symphoniser and pedal voices were generated seperately from the main organ sounds, which may not be a good sign! But I'm not the expert and you need someone who's got one of these organs, and who is an expert. Luckily, you'll find him on the Yahoo Lowrey group. He's Richard, the one that bought his GAK25-H1 for £1 - he buys all his organs for that price - or less.

Post over there and I'm sure he'll give you some ideas.
