Does anyone have any information on this organist-composer? Ithink I'mgoing to need some rather soon for a recital programme.

His two more well known organ works are the Carillon Orleanais and the Toccata. They're well worth learning, and not too difficult - does anyone else play them?

I know that he was organiste-titulaire of St.Francois de Sales in Paris at one time, but nothing else. </P>

I'm afraid very few organists in the US would probably ever have heard of Nibelle, which is a shame.</P>

I came very close to performing the Carillon Orléanais at a recital in Paris, but at the last minute decided to play a different piece.</P>

Nibelle's teachers were Gigout (at École Niedermayer),Fauré, Guilmant, and Vierne. He was organist at Versailles Cathedral and St Vincent-de-Paul, Paris.</P>

I picked up a nice Nibelle rarity when visiting the Flûte de Pan music store in Paris:</P>

There are some beautiful works in this collection - all rather short.</P>

Glad to hear you've got a recital coming Tim - do let us know more... [:)]</P>

Thanks for this information, soubasse32!

Plans are still on the drawing board - although my career leaves me little time(or indeed energy) for preparation. I'll probably program the Toccata.

Many thanks,

Tim

Did someone specifically request his music? Interesting. I've never heard of him, but figured soubasse32 would know... [:D]</p>

No Jason, it was not requested - I just rather like it. I was pretty sure that he would be fairly unheard of, though.

You can find some sound samples here (TR6=Carillon Orleanais, TR7=Toccata):

The Toccata has very similar manual figurations to Boellmann's famous one, and the great majority of it is manuals only - the pedals kick in a few pages before the end. A refreshing change to the Gigout, Vierne, and aforementioned Boellmann, etc.

From John Henderson's wonderful book "Directory of Composers for Organ"</p>

Nibelle, H.J.J. (France b. 1883; d. 1966) Henro Jules Joseph Nibelle was a pupil of Guilmant, Fauré, Gigout and Vierne. He was successively organist of Versailles Cathedral, St. Vincent-de-Paul and St. François-de-Sales in Paris. He published Fifty Pieces (2-stave w/pedal markings - for liturgical use) Carillon Orléanais, Toccata an Offertoire (in Les Maitres Contemporains bk. 1) 2 Preludes &amp; Fugues on "Ave Maris Stella", Variations sur un nöel, Préludes "Saint Sacrement"; Prélude et Fugue sur "Alma redemptoris"; Prélude et Fugue sur "Ave Regina Coelorum"; Prélude et Fugue sur "Salve Regina"; Toccata et Fugue sur le "Regina Coeli".</p>

Cheers,</p>
