View Full Version : I can't figure out the model number of my Orgasonic.

Hello,
I'm new to organs -- just bought a Baldwin Orgasonic from a coworker. It's not in perfect working order, so I'm been fiddling around with it. But I haven't (I don't think) located a model number anywhere on it. I could just not be looking in the right place. Any help would be appreciated.

For a start, here's a photo I took earlier today. I just took this to show a friend. I can take a better one if anyone thinks they could figure it out from a photo.

As you can see, I've removed a few things while I've been working on it. I've mostly been going at it with compressed air and electronics cleaner. And it's helping. There was a lot of dust. The upper keyboard was working when I got it, but the pedals and lower board were not. Now all the pedals work except the one farthest right. Some of the lower keys work, and the little beats are working, too. I'm going to keep cleaning; see what else comes from that. And will keep it on for a bit longer, so as see if that'll re-energize it.

It's a bit daunting when looking at all the electronics. I'm not an expert at this stuff, nor do I really know anything about organs (kind of an impulse buy; I really like playing music, but I have no real skills in piano or organ, etc. Still it's fun to play around).

Some numbers I've noticed while snooping around:
010797
IRB3021
C5
CB

And etched into the regulator box, a date: 7-31-71

And now that I look at it again, the "C5" might just be a 5, with the C written next to it at a later date.

Should I open the regulator box?
Possibly stupid question: does this thing have fuses? I'm not seeing any.

Thanks and take care,
Ryan.

Hi

It's a model 91S. The dates for this model are 1970-71 and that date of 1971 you found is accurate. It was one of the lowest models in the Baldwin range at that time.

If you can get it to work it's an OK-ish sounding organ, but nothing to get excited about. It's montetary value is zero, so don't spend any real money on it. If you just want an organ, you'll be able to find a fully working one of this class of instrument for very little, often nothing.

Oh, by the way, yours appears to be the model with Baldwin's in-built mouse deterrent system.

Cheers

PS. The usual friendly warning! There are mains voltages in there, so be careful when your'e poking around.

Yeah, no mice will be munching wires on this baby.

Thanks Andy. And thanks for the extra info. I got it for very little, and it's fun to toodle around with. So I'll see how far I can get with it. And if I have fun playing it, but decide that I'd be happier with a better model, then I'll have an idea of where to go.

Ryan.

Your cat likes to play the organ too? Mine used to lay for hours on the pedals, lol.
'Bout scared me to death when I walk past and hear the pedals clacking up and down. Then one day I turned the organ on and pulled a full Pedal Tutti while the cat was in slumberland, and since then I've never seen him near the organ!

He used to squeeze under the heel rest, and as you can see in the pic below, once he is there, its a bit hard to notice.

Unfortunately, I think he is learning that the organ lies silent for the time being, and is reclaiming his "conforming comfort bed".

Yup, that'll scare him. Yesterday I had to teach my cat not to jump onto the back axle of my neighbor's truck. He was standing on it, wouldn't get down, so my neighbor finally turned on the truck -- the engine roared and Meltron's eyes bugged out and he flew all the way across the yard. Sometimes there's no way around that; he needs to learn some fear if he wants to be safe.

I can certainly see how'd you miss your cat when he's down there. My cat hasn't figured out the pedals yet. He's mostly interested in the wiring in the back (when I have the back off). He's easy enough to distract, though. I just drop a leaf in front of him and he's good to go for a few minutes.
