Hello! I just joined this forum so this is my first post. I recently acquired an M3 myself, a couple of weeks ago. This is my first organ. I am having just such a problem as well, so I am going to jump in here...
I have an M3 with pedals that sound at what I think should be the proper volume, but both manuals are very quiet. With the volume tab on "normal" the volume of the pedals matches the volume of the manuals when the pedal drawbar is on "2". Threee of the four pedal tab settings function normally. The setting of "slow attack" and "fast decay" - both tabs rocked away from the player and toward the rear of the console - produces a low volume (not as low as the manuals) and also a "pop" whenever a pedal is pressed.
At first there was no vibrato at all, on either manual. I replaced a resister I found on the line box that was cracked. Then I had vibrato at a very, very low volume (even lower than the already quiet manuals). I swapped the two 6au6 tubes - the one for the manuals and the one for the vibrato. Now I have, as far as I can tell, the same level with vibrato on and off, though there is a distinctly different, deeper and fuller tone with the vibrato switched on, as if I have chosen a different drawbar setting. This is the same for both manuals. Since this is my first Hammond, I do not know whether this is normal, though I would think it is not - that the tone should be the sme with the exception of the vibrato being added. All the vibrato selections do seem to work.
Aside from the issues mentioned above, all the tabs seem to work. I've replaced a couple of other components and resoldered a broken connection to get to this point. I have not tried different tubes (apart from the swap mentioned above). I am picking up two 6au6 tubes to see if there is an improvement. I can read a schematic well enough to replace parts that are obviously broken, but that is the extent of my electrical knowledge.
So, hopefully the person who started this thread will pitch in again soon, and perhaps we can solve more than one M3 problem!
Regards,
Andrew
