I'm not a big reed organ fan. That said, I loooove Wurlitzer electrostatic reed organs. I have a Bonvicini Pianaccord that I've almost got restored, and my first Ebay purchase on the first week of Ebay was a Hohner red metal Melodica that I won for $13. Really I just don't have the space and I have Gulbransen Rialto II that is my priority right now. Someone needs to call this guy and save this beautiful looking reed organ. It just looks like it would sound good. Am I right?

My god, that's the biggest cliff hangar response yet. Not to mention sort of ...
I sent him a PM, but a newbie w/ 2 posts makes you wonder if we'll ever know. This is why I put images in this thread before the ad was removed. I'm glad I saved an organ, but not so sure about if it ended up in good hands. If you are the buyer please reassure us it is, and tell us what brand and model it is...at least the brand. Anyone know??

I would say I'll kick myself if it's a great reed organ, but I couldn't do much about it anyway even if I wanted the organ since I saw it over two weeks ago, I had no place to put it! Rule #1 If you want to keep yourself open for a great deal be sure you don't grab everyone that comes along unless you have the space. I look at ads at my leisure because I have no worry of going and getting something since nowhere to put it, but I've missed a Hammond D100 mint for $200, a free box grand piano, and now this, just in the past two weeks. Maybe I should be a piano and organ broker, I see the deals, but I don't want a bunch of dead weight on my hands. My personal collection is all I can handle. Plus I'd rather just play...but that D100 for $200, those are the ones that will make you nuts LOL!

I reckon it's a Dominion from Bowmanville Canada. Am I right? Looks fine to me.

Cheers,

Mark.

Yes, this is what it appears to be. Thanks for responding. It pays to post ads we see. I can attribute my getting a free Rialto II to the Organ forum's networking- someone had mentioned a Rialto K auction on Ebay and it was 20 miles from me. I was out bid and the winner got the Rialto K for $137.50 by outbidding me by 50 cents. In my disappointment I put an ad on Craigslist, "WANTED RIALTO II" and got a call for a free one two days later. I paid $200 for the Leslie 705 & 2 540's from same person a month or so later. The organ was at one location and the cabinets at another, but they were sold together ne when new- got all cables. Ironically a week later the Rialto K was listed again! The buyer did not show. Had I not gotten the Rialto II I would have been p.o.'ed!

I'm very glad that the Electrostatic (ES) reed organ was invented at Everett because when I hear a reed organ played I'm always try imagining it electrified in some way. Obviously there were other methods used over the years, but the electrostatic reed organ seems to do maximum justice to the vibrating reed. It's sometimes mentioned in these forums that the Wurlitzer ES sounds too reed like to pass for a pipe organ, however there are many tabs that cover a good range of tones, from flute, to reed, and even strings.

Even though the Wurlitzer keyed-reed ES series organs are not meant for the reeds to be audible it might be interesting to acoustically mic the reeds along with the existing electrostatic methods. When I play the Series 31 Wurlitzer keyed reed organ it has a pleasant acoustic tone.buried behind all of that ' 50's car trunk' sound deadening material.

Paul,

Check your pm's. I answered yours a few days back.

The machine is a Packard with 13 stops. sn: 70737. It was originally mounted in a style 477 case. A previous owner left a note and the original Packard paperwork inside the back. Apparently she purchased it in 1960, but the case was so deteriorated they removed the machine and mounted it on a board. They added a blower and their daughter used it as a practice keyboard. It wasn't till 1978 that they located another case and adapted it to the Packard action. They did a marvelous job and I probably would never have known withut the note that it was not original. The odd exception to this beautiful cas is that it has a latch mechanism in the keyslip, but no cover, or place where one could ever be. Thus, the case is still a mystery. I would love to post a photo of it, as I spent several hours detailing it and it is realy quite awesome. However, each time I hit the icon to add a photo, my page dims and I cannot continue typing the post, let alone add photos. Perhaps someone can tell me how to rectify this.

The action is about 80percent functional and the more I play it, the better it gets. Adds new meaning to 'blowing the cobwebs out'. Or, in this case, sucking!

The case may be from a Dominion,as someone hazzarded a guess. The legs have an odd K shape to them, with a piller that only goes half way to the floor. I have seen something like this on Esteys, but so far nothing quite like what I have. The key slip and music rack were apparently saved from the original case, as were the stops and knee levers.

At any rate, I am much more than satisfied with the results of my eight hour road trip and I do thank you and the organ forum again. Anyone interessted in Packards or just about anything else, drop me a pm and we'll shoot the breeze. Maybe it will clear out some more cobwebs......Bill

Hmmm. So they did appear. And I didn't even say abra cadabra. Anyway, reed fans, please take note of the Kellog "k" legS and half spindal. I bet that will ring home to someone.
I borrowed a photo from a friend that shows what the original case would have looked like. Which one do you guys like better?

Thanks....Bill
