Does anybody have any opinions on Teisco's combo organs? Cosmetically, at least, they seem similar to the Italian-made brands; but as I understand it, they were made in Japan. That's what combo-organ.com says, anyway. http://www.combo-organ.com/Teisco/teisco.htm
If you have any thoughts on them, please let me know.
Thanks!

Nice to see the sites. I wonder if Simon Beck picked up his quote from me, as I used to say that when I was with Kawai - also shifting some Teisco gear. Kawai did indeed buy out Teisco (and they did pronounce it as Tesco!) and when I went over there they still called the main organ production plant the Teisco Factory.
Whilst I've played lots of the synths, under both names, I've not come across a Teisco combo organ in the UK.

That combo-organ site is now one of my favorites. I can't believe the incredible variety of those machines that were made in the '60s and '70s. Funny, but some of them weren't exactly cheap back then! But I guess working musicians were willing to pay for a premium for portability. Anyway, they were very stylish instruments; fun to look at and probably fun to play.
I guess I'll find out when I get my Elka Panther, which will hopefully arrive next week. :-)
Cheers,

Hi Aaron - I've rehearsed with a group using the Teisco G.
It's not bad tonally, with an ability to split the keybpard into bass and lead sections.
Also, there's individual channel outputs for the split keyboard - quite handy if one is providing bass, or adding to the bass.
The overall sound is standard combo fare - so, that's woody flutey sinewaves through to fizzy buzzy reeds. Good fully adjustable vibrato.
Not as good as Farfisa Compact or of course the Gibson G101 - but a good combo nonetheless. Adding a swell/volume pedal would help to increase dynamics.
regards
Lazlo
