145 to CV

Hello - I have a 145 that I want to use with my CV. When they connected everything powers up but now sound comes out. Do I need to rewire the 6 pin male on the Leslie to make it work? Might it be some bad tubes? Any suggestions?

Hey Steve, your hookup is probably fine, BUT: the CV preamp needs B+ voltage to power the tubes. Leslie 122 types provide this B+ voltage; 145/7 types don't - ergo, no sound.

Lots of online retailers sell B+ kits, though. One good one is Rick at Tonewheel General:

It's also possible to rig up your own B+ supply of course, provided you know what you're doing (high voltages.)

You can measure the voltage at the B+ terminal at the back of your preamp. B+ comes from the 122 to the preamp on the CV. Perhaps somebody else would know what the correct reading should be. I think it's around 205 volts if memory serves well. The 6 pin cables I use on my CV are wired the same as on my BC and D hammonds; the color of wire for each numbered pin is the same at both ends.

The point is, the 145 doesn't supply B+ at all. Unless it's been modified that is... I had one that had a crude jumper to the big can cap, yikes!

But you're right of course, CM - if it were a 122 there should be B+ already there.

Look inside the back of the organ and see if there is anything mounted on the tone generator shelf and or as such.......maybe take a close up pic. of the back of the organ (obviously without the wood back on) and post it. If its a close enough and clear pic we should be able to see if there is infact a B+ supply unit already in the organ. Did the CV come with the 145?
