Hi All......

From the posts I've been reading, it is clear that most of you are accomplished musicians, and I respect that......I am just really starting to want to play my instrument.

I've owned 3 B3's in the last 30 years, and never have learned to play any of them!!

Is there a GOOD self teaching organ course anyone could recommend? On tape or cd or even DVD, with sheet music? I can play "Satin Doll", Spanish Eyes", and the wedding march pretty good, but other than a couple of smooth glissandos, that's about it. I can read the music, but my biggest and most important problem is being able to change chord positions quickly, and all their inversions, too. I want to learn to play entry level Jazz using the percussion tablets on my console. I love that Hammond sound! I live in a small community with no keyboard teachers available.........so this is my only option.

Any information about this would be most appreciated.

Cheers!
Bob

I'll put my teachers hat on for this one, Bob.

OK, I'm obviously biased, but I don't think that any self-seaching system can ever come near some real lessons from a real teacher. And, yes, I know, you said you can't find one......

Chords? Well, first, you don't need to know ALL the inversions, just the ones that let you play the chord progressions smoothly. Get to know some of the theory behind the way chords are formed and how harmonic progressions actually work. Learn the 'usual suspects' in the keys you play in. Keep a smooth, almost still, left hand and try to let the chords float from one to another, unless there has to be a jump. If there is, anticipate it and practise the move until it's reliable - do it eyes closed! Get to trust your left hand. Do plenty of left hand scale and arpeggio work, too. The more you do, the better and faster that hand becomes.

OK, all you others, let's get Bob playing chords. Any more suggestions!
