someone asked this not too long ago, and the only reply was a satirical "dont do it" ... but, seriously, whats the best way to go about doin this ? does anyone have any experience ? .... i know stores online sell the chop cases, but how easy is it to transport the electronics into the new case ? is there any diy method ?

thanks in advance

Hi,
I hope I can help you. I per say have never cut up a Hammond, but I have seen some done. They are not pretty sights. The problem with the older spinets is the fact that several models have Electic voice coils. The coils around the speaker are also part of the power supply. If you remove the speaker, you kill the power supply unless you replace the speaker with a choke. That is the first reason.
The second reason is with a spinet chop, you don't gain that much by the chop. Most of the weight is in the keyboards and tonegenerators. If you must chop, consult a tech. as you go.
The road cases are easier to handle and fit in autos. Odviously you don't care about the case, so put it on ebay. $5 bucks is better than nothing because nothing is what you eventully end up with.

i am going to chop one of my l100's mostly for the fact that i will be able to transport it in the back of my car.
Weight was never a problem.
