Hi everyone and good morning!

I have inherited a Kawai SR-5. I do not play the organ, nor do I know anything about organs. This organ belonged to my grandmother and I believe it was purchased around 1990. It is in mint condition as far as I can tell. It has the original manuals, RAM card, headphones, music books. There are also some cassette tapes that I think might have been instructional tapes? My grandmother was the only one who played this organ, although it hasn't been played in the past few years. It has been kept in an immaculate, smoke free, pet free home. Dusted faithfully ;)

I do not know what value to place on this organ, I would welcome any suggestions about what might be a reasonable expectation. I'm not so much interested in a profit, as I would like to see this organ go to someone who would appreciate it and use it.

I would be willing to donate this organ to a church, non-profit, hospital, nursing home, music school, etc.

It is currently located in Ft Myers FL and I do not have any way to move it myself. I did speak with a small local moving company here and they say they have moved organs before. I would be happy to put you in touch with that company if interested.

I also plan to post this on Craig's List. I welcome any other suggestions as far as where to advertise or who I might call?

FYI- the local charities down here (Church thrift stores, Salvation Army) do not want organs, they say they have too many and cannot sell them! I stopped by the organ store and they thought they might be able to help me find someone who would want it, but I have not heard back from them.

thanks in advance for your help,

p.s. my grandmother's neighbor also has an organ she would like to sell. It is a different make/model but I will get the info and post in case it might be something someone is looking for?

Hi, Natasha,

Thrifts are pretty fickle. I shop them often and sometimes they will have a sign "no organs" and next thing you know they will have one on the sales floor. It must depend on who you speak with. But it is true that they fall to very low prices beforethey sell so the stores don't have much to gain.

You've done the best thing in choosing Craig's list. It puts your message out there where people in your area who are searching for organs will be alerted. The list of non profits you mention may not be good choices if they don't already have someone interested in organ in their group. (Some of those very same people are giving away the organs they have!) Your best hope is someone like the forum members who are trying to keep the instruments up and working.

I'd suggest you list your instrument at $250 to screen out Ebayers who are parting out old instruments for a profit and then negotiate (or even donate) when you meet the right person. You will know instantly who has alove for the instrument and who has $$ signs in their eyes!

Could we possibly interest you in learning to play? It is fun and relaxing and while it takes some work to get started, an organ as new as yours will have alot of automated playing features that you can enjoy early in your learning curve? Your grandmother would have been pleased to keep it in the family.

Hi Natasha,

We have been looking for something like this for our church. My son has an SR-4 at home and we have put his grandmothers old organ in our church. He would really like something similar to his SR-4 in our church. He is 14 years old, soon to be 15, and the organ is his instrument of choice. He loves to play the organ. He is the only one in our small church that plays the organ at this point. The only problem is that we live in Canada and I would have to talk to my husband about picking it up. That might depend on how long you are willing to hold it for us as well.

We have advertised for an organ, actually even and XR 9000, but there are not very many of them around.

If you still have it, email me and I'll see what my husband says.

Thanks so much,
