    Technics SX-FN3 Organ

    Hi, I need help.

I am looking to buy a Technics SX-FN3 Organ and need to determine its fair market worth.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and is in very good condition. It plays beautifully.

    Thanks!

I think I am correct in saying that this is the 61 note keyboard/25 note pedalboard version of the Technics GN series. I too would like to own one, but there aren't many about so you are lucky to have found one. To give you an idea of market value, when they first came out they cost around £10,000 to buy.

    Best wishes,

    Re: Technics SX-FN3 Organ

I believe Fettler is correct about the description. The FN series is the console version of the GN models. His information about original cost is of no use to you. The FN series is late 1980s or very early 1990 design. The best Technics did not come until the designs and ideas found in the GA and FA series and even those and the very last series like the G100 and F100 do not bring much money. Where you are makes some difference. If you live in an area where the home market is/was strong you can ask for and possibly get more money. Ditto if you live in an area that had good Technics dealer support and strong sales when they were new. In any event for any FN3 pristine or not I would not expect to get more than $1k. The fact that they haven't been made since about 2000 and parts being hard to get sometimes has caused their used value to be depressed significantly. Don S.

    Re: Technics SX-FN3 Organ

Where I live in Portland, OR, the used organ market is pretty much dead. I saw an FN-3 described as in perfect condition last year on Craigslist advertised for $400. Apparently there was another person who wanted it because it sold very fast, much faster than I could get over there.

    Re: Technics SX-FN3 Organ

    I recently
acquired this same organ but it has a problem; very low volume. I'd like to get a copy of
the organ's schematics but have had no luck.  Does anybody have electrical
schematics for the SX-FN3?  I'm hoping to find another owner who
wouldn't mind scanning the documents and sending them to me.  Any advice on what the problem might be would be very much appreciated also.

    Thank you,

    Re: Technics SX-FN3 Organ

In 1993 I bought a Technics FN3 organ, which I understand is different from the SX-FN3

Unfortunately the cable making the connexion between the organ and its pedal house is broken

This cable contains 9 wires of differrent colors, is 1,5 meter long and has the number QEXG 14005 ZC

In the event you've had a reply to your message, could you see on the electrical schematics in what order these wires are connected to the plug

    (4 +4+1 pins)

Or is there another owner of a FN3 who would be so kind as to disconnect this cable from the pedal house and look inside the plug in what order these 9 wires are connected ?

Many thanks in advance for your reply

    Re: Technics SX-FN3 Organ

FN3 is simply a shortend way of saying SX-FN3. They are one and the same.

All Technics instruments are designated SX-something, so when referring to the model number many folks just drop the SX part. Even the factory designation, which appears on the control panel of your organ, shoud be simply FN3. However, the sticker on the rear should state the full model number as SX-FN3, SX-EX30L, SX-G100C, or whatever. The serial number of the unit is usually found on the underside of the keyboard.

The most common cause of low volume is a broken or disconnected cable that connects the lower part of the organ to the upper part, inasmuch as the wires from the expression pedal are contained in the common cable. Actually, organs equipped with such a cable cannot be played at all unless it is firmly connected.

Other posters are absolutely correct; used organs in today's market are practically worthless. Here in Southern California I would be expect an FN3 to sell for $500 or less. Sad, but true.
