    estey pump organ

I just inherited an Estey pump organ with 17 stops and about 5 octaves/61 total keys.  Trouble is, there are no labels on any of the stops.  Any idea how to find out what to label the stops?  I have looked online but can't seem to find any site which lists the stops with their names (other than one that listed the stops for a nine-stop organ). Any help would be appreciated!

    Megan,

Look at my organ gallery for the Estey organ, and see if it has the same number of stops you have.  If so, I can just send you the names of mine.

    Hope that helps.

    Sorry,

Just checked, and realized mine is only 9 stops.  However, there are others here who may be able to help you.  Let me see if I can send them your way.

    Re: estey pump organ

I have some info on the Estey Organs, and I will look for those with 17 stops.  It would be helpful to know the Model number and the Serial number to try and tace this info down.

    Re: estey pump organ

James probably his it pegged.  If you are not into reed organs and don't know what to expect from each stop, or how to use it, ask here and we will help.  You will rapidly discover that the dulcianas are just a mute on the Diapasons, same relation between the flute d'amour and the flute. The Vox Jubilante should just be a combination of the Choral, Diapason, and maybe the flute.  Have fun and make nice musicParty!!!

    Re: estey pump organ

James and everyone who wrote in - thank you. We are having our friend who is an organist come over and confirm that those stop names make sense for what he hears, and then we will be all set. It is helpful to know the names associated and what order they should be. We have dusted it out, replaced the foot pads and the fabric covering the openings in the wood, and one key, and now will have everything labeled and ready to go. I appreciate your work on our behalf! Thanks again. Megan

    Re: estey pump organ

    Megan,

I agree with Clavier.  We do need more people who have an interest in the reed organs.   You are most welcome for the info.  I would often help a guy who restored several reed organs including my Crown by Geo. P. Bent with stops names and etc.  Sometimes when you can't buy a new label these days I would find a suitable substitue that would be adequate.

It is good to know that glorious sounding Estey will play once again.
