Re: Wanted Organ in Milwaukee Wisconsin

    Thanks for the reply.

That is a little far away and a bit over my budget, but again thank you anyway.  It also looks like a big project.  Right now I can't take on a big project because I'm still trying to clean up my house and basement from the flood we had here in Milwaukee a couple of months ago.  My house is mostly in shambles.

I'm not sure what kind of organ I want, classical, theater, electronic, pipe, etc.  Right now an electronic organ would be in my budget, but I also know that sometimes you can find a pipe organ for a real steal.

    Here is my story...

I am looking for an organ for my high school daughter to learn to play.  She is already a musician and has asked me to teach her organ as well.

I am all new to these online organ forums but not to organs.

I used to be an organist, choir director, etc. studied organ in college, but I haven't played in many many years.  Several years ago I was in a car accident that injured me so that I can't perform music again, let alone enjoy it to a great degree as well.

I thought I would have nothing to do with organs again, but now my daughter wants me to teach her how to play.

I do have some organ parts that I collected many years ago hoping to do an organ project with them, i.e. a set of chimes, vox humana, a few pipe ranks, tracker organ chest, 32 note pedal board, etc.  I don't know if or how I could use these things now.

At this point I don't know what direction to go.  I'm just learning about MIDI technology.  I am thinking about it because I could hook it up to a computer and use it with a music writing program like Sibelius which my daughter could use in school as well.

So this is where I am, being new to this.  Any suggestions?

    Tony,

You could find a used 2-3 manual console, gut it, convert it to MIDI inputs, hook up a PC and run MidiTzer.

The model 216 software is free.  If you get the 260 special ( 3 manual ) version, it requires a $100.00 "Donation".

The proceeds go to the rebuild of a TPO in  southern California.  You may want to contact Artisanorgans.com

as they have a great uMIDI controller system.  Our local T.O. group is completing a rebuild of a Devtronix

3 manual console, based on a Rodgers 33E.  We used the Artisan uMIDI control system.  We still have

some 'minor' issues, but just hooked up the sound engine today, and We Made Music!  It is a digitally

sampled 12 rank instrument.  It has a few 'toys' with it too!

If you have any further questions, send me a PM and I will get back to you.

Good luck in your 'Cleaning'.  Any type of disaster is a real headache!

I've been through a house fire, and that 'Aint-no-fun' either!

Re: Wanted Organ in Milwaukee Wisconsin

    Hello Tony,

I have also gone the Artisan / Miditzer 260SP route, and am very happy with the result. I started by driving about 1000 kilometres (600 miles) to pick up a gutted Conn 650 3 manual, with the case in very good condition.

The Artisan MIDI control system may not be the cheapest on the market, but I feel that they are up there with the best. Artisan uMIDI control system can also be used to drive real pipes, as well as sampled voices, so a pipe organ can be augmented with extra sounds in lieu of purchasing more ranks of pipes and associated air units etc. Check out the web site below.

    http://web.mac.com/internationalartists/Artisan_Instruments/Home.html

I have completed writing the configuration file, loaded it to the computer that has Miditzer running, and the sound is fantastic. One would be hard pressed to tell the difference between this, and a real pipe organ (considering the size of the music room (environment) at least.)

So I would definitely recommend this method. There is a great amount of assistance available on the Miditzer site should you need it.

    http://www.jbwebserver.net/mforum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1482

This part of the Forum talks about connecting Artisan to Miditzer.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your search for an organ.

    Kind regards,

    Barry
