What a surprise. I couldn't see the results without voting of course, so I just off the top of my head clicked French Horn, and wow! -- that's the most popular pick!

I think I said French Horn because it's not terribly assertive, but bold in its own way -- sort of underneath the fray but actually carrying more weight than it's given credit for.

    Bubbles before it speaks.  Smile

Wonder if that's anything like me IRL? Must be the way I see myself . . .

I voted for other.  Your poll seems biased in favor of English organs.  Most of the pipe organs that I have played in Houston are based on German or Dutch stops.

I personally enjoy a good Krumhorn, nice and reedy, but not too pungent for polite company.  Big Smile

There is an instrument called the Waldhorntuba aka Wagner tuba aka Horn Tuba which can chant like the monks and whoop and bellow as in the time of war.

I chose Tibia because I'm well-rounded (in more ways than one)!

So, were there a disproportionate number of reeds rather than flues?  I had a hard time identifying with the choices given.  Perhaps a Koppelflöte or Hohlflöte?  I actually like the 8' and 4' celesting flutes I just got for my organ.  Can identify with them more.  Oh, well.  I suppose I shouldn't think too much.

Re: What organ stop would most closely describe your character?

    John,

I have no trouble viewing the results without voting.  In the bottom gray margin of the poll box (next to the total number of votes) is an underlined blue text "button" that is called View Results.  I just click on that at the results are displayed.

    I hope this helps.

    Later,

    Allen

P.S.  I haven't voted because I primarily play "home" organs not classical organs.

I chose trumpet because it's brash, boisterous, and extremely grating to the ears when used too often. Stick out tongue
First they came for the ABC consoles, then they came for the older consoles. When they finally got to the spinets, they were all gone.

Re: What organ stop would most closely describe your character?

I'm a good old Stopped Diapason. Quaint, but lively and usually found covered in dust in an old church.

Re: What organ stop would most closely describe your character?

I chose Flute/Stopped Diapason.  I am clear like a flute, sparkling like a Piccolo, have a sense of humor at times chirpy, etc.  Then, I am quiet, but fully aware of what is going on around me. I just do my thing whether noticed or not as I couldn't care less like the dull Stopped Diapason.  I am slim any more like flutes (yeah Michael slim, skinny, short changed, lacking, etc in more ways than one.)  I wonder is that is from lack of practice, but trying to do better here.

PS - Celesting flutes can be very pleasant, sweet sounding, and etc.

    Maestro SB32,

*Shake things up*??? Nay, you provide dignity, pomp and circumstance, and leadership - You're a wellspring of knowledge.  Imho, you're an Erzähler - telling the story like it is - speaking truth to power.

    Cheers,

That would be the "grand cornet". I'll let you add what type :)

Re: What organ stop would most closely describe your character?

After some thought, the organ stop I would choose would be a three rank Fourniture.

    Because......

    1. On it's own, Fourniture isn't very useful. It needs the other stops to help it express it's beauty.

On my own, I wouldn't have/won't get very far. But with God, my late first organ teacher, my current teacher, my wife, my son, and the support of so many others, I can truly grow as an organist and glorify God to my utmost. As well, our successes are never truly our own. We receive plenty of help and generosity from God and others to get there.

    2. Some may find the Fourniture a bit screetchy or grating on the ears. But if you give it a chance, it will really help add strength and shine to the organ.

Give me a chance and with God's help I can make a real difference.

    3. I choose a three rank Fourniture, not a four rank or a five.

I am a work in progress, I am not there yet. But with hard work and commitment, I'll get to be a IV Fourniture, and eventually a V.

Re: What organ stop would most closely describe your character?

Ha!  The ladies of the Altar Guild at Marietta First United Methodist Church would vote me a 16' Diaphone.  We'd been to the Chicago Hot Dogs for lunch.  I didn't know they had come in to take care of altar cloths, flowers, etc. as I was tuning the organ.  They work very quietly.  My Diaphone note surely had to be a CCCCb!  LOL.
