Re: What denomination are you
Clavier: jbird604:
A sprinkling of Pentecostals, Mormons, and Presbyterians.
Make that, "A sprinkling of Pentecostal, Mormon, and Presbyterian." I'm pretty sure that there's only one vote for each.
I can't be the only pentecostal here !
First they came for the ABC consoles, then they came for the older consoles. When they finally got to the spinets, they were all gone.

Re: What denomination are you
This is all good info, and flat good reading for knowledge. Experience, however, is the best personal teacher. I do agree that many churches of any denomination have some very good people there who really know the Lord and Master as well as follow His teachings. I also say that you can be fooled at times because people are people who are prone to fail and not be what they present themselves to be. I have heard it said that people wear a different face to church than they do in everyday living. However, as mentioned before, especially in the music departments the devil really has a playground big time. I have see some awful things as well as very hurt people who played in churches including myself. I have met people from some church where I onced attended, and have them say something very tacky, uncouth, and not very proper for a so called Christian. It is best sometimes for people to remove themselves from a given situation and I have done just that very thing in order to keep my sanity. That is why a number of us on the forum have attended and/or played in different denominations.
The kind of "mess" I grew up in would most likely be considered a type of "cult" if they practiced some of that ignorance they did way back when I was young. In order to keep a sound mind, we should be careful of some of the teachings as well as this new modern happy clappy mess called music inspired by God. The "mess" I grew up in was short of being a form of witchcraft if not outright a practice of it for sure. They were mind controlling, taught fearful things as well as presented God as nothing but a judge if we did not conform to what the "preacher" said we should do. Do be advised the preacher had direct contact with God that none of the members had. I have seen members in that church literally be cruel to one another, and some horrible consequences came as a result of it.
So, I say it is each to his own way of worshipping God, and the right to chose where he or she will attend church if they attend at all. I was taught that people who didn't go to church were evil. I can honestly say that some of the cruelest people I ever met in my life were at some church.

Re: What denomination are you
Well said, Tenor Trumpet.
I once had the pleasure of working in an office with a self-proclaimed atheist who was one of the kindest, gentlest, most ethical human beings I have ever met. I think he was really more of an agnostic than an atheist; but he called himself an atheist. Perhaps he was more of a secular humanist?
Obviously, the world would be better off with more people like him than the ones with whom you once attended church.
If my memory is not mistaken, I believe that Dante placed a few righteous pagans in Paradise.
Peace!

Sorry to be blunt but this is the most idiotic poll ever. Does this really matter? Or does the organ comes first?

Havoc, I merely wanted to get some kindo idea what the demographics on the forum were, of course the organ comes first, but if you think that this poll is so idiotic, then why did you even bother responding to it?

Heh, somebody's had a bad day.
First they came for the ABC consoles, then they came for the older consoles. When they finally got to the spinets, they were all gone.

Havoc, of course the organ comes first. I'm sorry you think this poll idiotic, but it has generated an interesting thread, especially for those of us who feel that religion and faith play a major part in our overview as church organists.

Actually, I think Havoc's undies are a little tight today, but yes Havoc did seem to be rather grouchy today. and, I would add that this is one of the more interesting threads.

Re: What denomination are you
Sorry, I was a bit rough yesterday. But I find threads like these often tend to polarise a forum instead of pulling it together. It is the blower room but even then.

Re: What denomination are you
I think it is good to find out where we all come from. Havoc, did you forget to do something first thing this morning? Chill. It is only an organ forum, not the United Nations.

Re: What denomination are you
This morning? I think that with the shift in hours it is hard to pin down the time of posts here. Anyway it isn't possible to chill here right now. While we had 13°C this week it is now above 30°C. (that is 286.16K resp 303.16K in real units)

I don't know what denomination those temperatures are in, but they sure ain't Baptist. If its between 13 and 30, you must be in the freezer. If its nearly 300, you must be in the oven!
(Just kidding, I know what C and K mean. -- But the only C and F equivalents that I can ever think of are that 0 degrees C is when water freezes, same as 32 degrees F, and that -- for some reason this stuck in my head back in high school -- 20 degrees C is 68 degrees F, "room temperature" as my teacher had us memorize.)
So, if you've gone from 13 to 30, you've gone from coat weather to bikini weather in a matter of days.

If you had stated those temps in Fahrenheit, I would have thought you were from Rochester! Perhaps you are in Toronto.

But Choirmaster, you haven't participated in the poll, so therefore we don't know where you're coming from. Our disagreements aside in a different thread -perhaps I needed a reality check- please tell us what you think.
