This is truly a unique instrument. It belonged to Bob Power, owner of Banda Records which now issues George Wright CD's.

Now this one certainly isn't one you see every day! Despite its credentials, I'm not sure about the bench design. I'd be asking the seller for a discount as I'd have to buy my own! Stick out tongue

It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

The bench lead to quite a discussion on the yahoo groups Allen organ forum--the general concensus was not in favor of that bench!

     Toodles.

Hi guys....ya know what?  That bench looks like somebody was trying to copy the bench from the San Francisco Fox.  That original Fox bench was no doubt a product of Mrs. Fox's decorating touches she incorporated into all of her husbands theatres.  What do you think?  I'm just guess-timating this.

You're right. It says about the bench on the ebay page.

Wonder what Mrs Fox's house looked like, with more decorating touches - shudder!

Hi Andyg....Ha!  The San Francisco Fox was dripping in ornate stuff!  I've never seen a book on the personal lives of Mr. and Mrs. Fox.  Only reference I know of is Ben Halls' "The Best Remaining Seats".  I don't have a copy of that book, but I read it years ago.  Seems to me that it was mentioned in that book that the Fox'es went utterly broke in the depression of 1930s.  If you know of that book, or if you've got a copy, there's lots of photos in it about the American theatre scene back in the 20s, along with a beautiful story about Roxy...."Mr. Showmanship", and the New York theatre scene.  If you happen to know about a book concerning the Foxes, I'd like to know.  Thanks.........

I find this type of thread rather useful.  Saves me the trip of searching on ebay as well providing the opportunity for other members to comment.  Since NYCFarmboy is confining these updates to a single thread, I don't see a problem here.

There is no way to block seeing individual threads.  If you're not interested, don't just click on it.

Re: Electronic Theater Organs of note for sale on ebay

Jay999 - I think the book you want is the one written in the mid-80s by the late Preston Kaufman. It was written specifically about the San Francisco Fox and is no doubt the definitive book on the theatre. The title is possibly The Fabulous Foolish Fox but I wouldn't swear to it. Its been out of print for years. Occasionally I have seen used copies for sale on Amazon.com and Ebay but even the used copies have been hideously expensive. But its a great book. Its written in a similar style to the Theatre Organ Encyclopedias Vol. 1 & 2 by David Junchen, large format with lots of good sharp period photos.  If you happen to find one under $200 I wouldn't dilly-dally about snapping it up.

    Here is another 'Oldie-but-Goodie'

    http://cgi.ebay.com/CONN-652-Theater-organ-with-Leslie-740_W0QQitemZ280213113539QQihZ018QQcategoryZ16219QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This a CONN model 652 Theater organ. It's an instrument that can be appreciated by all organists. Features include three 61-note manuals and a 32-note biophonic pedal clavier. There is also a Solo Reed voice section and Tuned Percussion voices that can be played on all three manuals. There are Preset control registrations and a Transposer. There is also an internal Reverb system and installed on this organ, an Alesis Nanoverb that outputs to another additional stereo amplifer and speaker system which hides along the wall behind the organ.
A Leslie 740 goes with this setup so you know the sound is huge. All is in "living room" condition.
All is in excellent operating condition.

Not a bad price, but not a good one either---Starting bid is $2400.00

I think he is dreaming if he thinks he will get that kind of money for this instrument.

Maybe $1500-$1750 or it will sit in Florida. Hmm
