I was going to ask you about your FX-20.

 

The only thing preventing me from really running out and buying is the lack of Filter Control (Brilliance) but I do understand that there is the touch control.  Is the FX-20 Velocity and After Touch capable in the keyboards?  How is that done?

And, do you have some samples of your playing ... I'm still trying to determine exactly what the overall sound of the FX-20 is.  I do like what I have heard on YouTube ... but every little bit helps.  cheers.  So if you don't mind my asking ... what is it like playing ?

Does the solo keyboard also have touch ?

The FX and FS series have both aftertouch (pressure sensitive of each manual) and velocity for every manual note.  The pedals of course do not have either aftertouch or velocity.

The optional MDR1 recorder records all of these messages as well as registration changes on the fly and the intial settings for each performance.

 The closest to brilliance is via the small drawbar selectors for custom voices.

FOREVER FUSION

There is a brilliance control on the solo keyboard.  Sound wise, it sounds pretty fantastic.  Most people are really impressed by the sheer power of its internal amplification and speakers.  The only issues with these keyboard are the motorized slider controls - the belts and motors wear out and there can be a grounding problem with the expression pedal.  My unit has several dead sliders that I just haven't had the time to fix yet.  But, the sliders are only important as a reminder of where the volume is set.  The controls themselves are electronic and continue to function even though the belt may be dead.

I have about two dozen other sound generators and keyboards attached via MIDI to my FX20.  I build a MIDI convertor for these organs.  A real nice feature is the solo keyboard is three note polyphonic via MIDI as are the pedals... Got three feet?  Would be fun to gang two organs together via MIDI...

As mentioned before the FX-20/FX-1 use FM plus sampled sounds for the rhythm. One difference from the DX-7 is the use of multiple DACS with multiple outputs. The FX-20 has two DACS with 6 outputs each, while the FX-1 has three DACS with 6 outputs each. 12 and 18 audio channels respectively. This allows for separate instrument panning for a stereo effects, instrument doubling for chorus effects, greater headroom and less distortion. The DX-7 uses only one DAC with one output.

Secondly, the FX-20/FX-1 have analog Symphonic Chorus effects, analog 2-speed Tremolo effects, and digital reverb. Add the analog Phasor effect on the rhymic sounds, and the before mentioned big sound system, and you have a very big sound.
