You might try looking here at the Miditzer forum.  Look in the Sound Fonts area toward the end of the page. There is also a yahoo group  called theatre-sf@yahoogroups.com  that is fairly active.  Try signing up with them and start asking questions. .

    Re: Announcing MyOrgan

MyOrgan does not use Soundfonts. I am not aware of any free large organ sample sets available other than those sample sets listed on the MyOrgan homepage. Won't the Stiehr-Mockers organ listed there do?

If you want cheap three-manual sample sets you will need to go for a different system: jOrgan. This is free, but requires a bit more work to set up on your computer. Also, the sets available at the moment are synthesizer-developed rather than true pipe samples. But they can still sound good if you can use plenty of reverberation. jOrgan differs from MyOrgan in that it does use Soundfonts. I believe there is a large neo-baroque pipe organ sample set listed on the MyOrgan homepage which is also available as Soundfonts suitable for jOrgan use. It is not free.

The Miditzer mentioned in the previous post is also free, and is easy to set up, but it is a TPO (Theatre Pipe Organ). Some of its sounds are very good.

There are many large organ sample sets available for Hauptwerk, but they and the system itself are certainly not free, and may not fit well with people on a "tight budget".

MyOrgan, jOrgan, Miditzer and Hauptwerk are all capable of producing excellent sounds.

    Re: Announcing MyOrgan

It is possible to use Soundfont samples, by using Soundfont's exporting feature and putting the exported samples into a wav folder. Of course this only works if the Soundfont voice has a sample for each note, and also includes release markers. If you feel like doing the work, it is possible to put release markers into those samples that do not have them. Some of the better Soundfonts even include stereo samples.

    Won't the Stiehr-Mockers organ do?

Indeed it will - as will any Hauptwerk *Version 1* organ, though I think you'll find that swell pedals don't work. NB: The S-M is totally dry - you'll need to use reverb; with that proviso, it's a pretty useful sampleset.

    Re: Announcing MyOrgan

I recently helped a friend set up MyOrgan, using a dedicated computer and a home pipe organ console he had built, from which he removed the tracker action (!) and all but the show-pipes. He now has the free Ott Orgel samples and the free Stiehr-Mockers, and also the Cavaille-Coll at Mainz samples, which he bought. The latter gave me some problems, as my friend uses draw-knobs to operate the couplers, and the Graphical User Interface for the Mainz organ uses pistons for the couplers. MIDI-Ox came to the rescue, but not without some pain, for I have not yet become confident in using this very useful computer program.

The swell pedal is working quite well. My friend bought a MIDI interface for the manuals, pedals, stop switches and swell pedal. His sub-woofer is very impressive, with good fundamental sounds into the 32' region.

My friend is an accomplished organist, and he is absolutely delighted with the sound of the organ. Given his previous lack of enthusiasm for anything but the real thing, this constitutes high praise for the virtual organ.
